Our story

How we got our start
Our cat was playing with our rippled up rug and she loved it. We designed The Ripple Rug around her Feline Instincts and Curiousity. We launched on Kickstarter in 2015. We were finalist on QVC's 'Next Big Thing Competition' and premiered the Ripple Rug live on national TV on the TODAY Show.
What makes our product unique
We invented the Original Ripple Rug Cat Toy. We have three (3) US Patents on our invention. We manufacture in the United States using recycled plastic water bottles. Over 100 US workers at 10 companies across 6 States work on the Ripple Rug. It is great for cats, the Environment and the US Economy.

HOW TO BUILD POSITIVE HUMAN–CAT SOCIAL INTERACTION USING YOUR RIPPLE RUG

CATS LOVE INTERACTION & PLAYING WITH YOU - THEIR PET PARENT

Regular changing-up of the top rug, by moving the touch-points to different locations, or rolling the touch-points on themselves to form reinforced arches, increases your kitty’s curiosity. The use of wands, treats, and other toys hidden in ripples, will help increase the interaction between you and your furball. The top is meant to be 'scrunched' up or rippled and is not intended to cover the entire bottom. This leaves ample room for pouncing, making it a great launch pad for your cat.

  • Playing with a wand-toy, while your cat is hiding under the rug, helps build a bond with you and kitty, initiating future playtimes together.
  • Kitties love when you throw their toys into the holes, encouraging them to use their search and locating skills, creating activity for couch-potato behaving furballs.
  • Hiding treats in the folds brings out your kitty’s natural instincts, helping slower eating and weight loss management.

Below are the most common questions and concerns after 5 years of manufacturing the Ripple Rug

MAKE IT STIFFER

The majority of our comments are about our carpet being 'soft', or 'collapsible'. We felt it was important to address this concern PRIOR to making your purchasing decision. The Ripple Rug is a bed and as such it is meant to be soft and comfortable to sleep on. We perform bench marking on every batch of our custom carpet to ensure it meets with our standard for stiffness to use the invention as intended.

In order to be abundantly clear, The Ripple Rug is intended to be SOFT so it can be collapsed by a cat pouncing on top.

As the Inventor and ONLY manufacturer in the World of the Ripple Rug, we prefer it soft, thus we named it the Ripple Rug :-).

IT FALLS FLAT

A common misuse is to use the whole top rug to cover the whole bottom rug. The Top rug is to be scrunched up, or Rippled. The closer you bring the Touch-Points when attaching the top to the bottom, the bigger the ripples will be.

FUZZY WUZZY WAS A CAT?

Cats have very sharp nails to pluck with. If your cat likes to pluck the fibers and the carpet gets fuzzy, you can easily fix it. Simply use scissors to trim the fuzz or a clothes shaver.

TOUCH-POINT RELEASE

A Touch-Point is designed to release from the carpet under extreme duress. Due to the science of our application and need for safety, occasionally we have a premature release. A released Touch-Point can be re-applied at home, it only takes 1 minute.

THAT NEW RUG SMELL?

We use high quality Natural Rubber in our non-slip application to ensure it holds to the floor well. The natural smell will dissipate in a short time. You can wash the bottom rug to remove any smells more quickly.

GOOD OR BAD, BUT DON'T BE UGLY:

As a result of the above concerns, sometimes we receive negative reviews or poor seller feedback. Sometimes people use reviews as a soapbox to disparage or flat out lie about our product and process. We do not know if it is a form of retribution for restocking fees or an attack from a competitor, either way it is downright mean and we as a society are better than that. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, however, abusive language, or threats will be reported.

The Ripple Rug is made using Polyester fibers spun into carpet, and just like clothes e.g. a t-shirt, when worn for a while, it needs to be cleaned, to maintain a ‘new’ fresh feeling. When you wear clothes, your natural secretions such as, sweat and sebum, make clothes saggy and odoriferous. When your cat uses their Ripple Rug, natural oils, pheromones, fur, food, etc…have the same effect, they accumulate and soften the fibers of the rug. When the carpet becomes too soft to hold any shape it is a good indicator it has collected fur and oils and is time to wash it. A Simple wash with a grease cutting dish soap will remove the oils which are softening the fibers. It’s important to clean your Ripple Rug to maintain stiffness.

REMOVING FUR & OTHER PARTICLES

It is advisable to vacuum your Ripple Rug when necessary to prevent nail shards, fur, whiskers and dander from embedding into the carpet pile. From our experience, cats are clean creatures and prefer a freshly maintained environment. We also recommend a sticky roller to not only clean Touch-Points, but to also pick-up fur from around the holes. You may, if you prefer, use a rubber glove to brush the rug and ball up loose fur to remove it. A sweeping motion with your hand will do the trick, it will collect a lot of fur, you’ll be amazed at how much fur accumulates on the Ripple Rug. Fur catching also softens the carpet, so please follow the cleaning instructions to maintain stiffness on your Ripple Rug

WASHING TO REMOVE OILS & OTHER YUKKY STUFF

Did you know that cats release pheromones from various scents glands on their body, such as their paws and their heads? They do this to communicate with other cats and to establish the boundaries of their living areas. For this reason oils and liquids may build-up on the rug, these can soften the rug taking away that ‘new’ fresh or 'stiff' feeling. Barf or other nasty deposits on your rug should also be cleaned. Wash clean with soap and water. You may wish to use a garden hose outside, in a bath tub or in the washing machine on cold cycle. We found the best results were achieved using a grease cutting dish soap and soaking in the bathtub, rinse and hang to dry. Fabric softening detergent will make the carpet very soft.

IRONING TO HELP CREATE THAT ‘NEW CRISP’ RUG FEELING

The Ripple Rug is the flippity floppity rug that not only ripples, but also feels soft and spongy to cats. While cats love hard boxes to hide in, they love to interact, pounce and reshape the constant-reconfigurable forms of the Ripple Rug themselves - it’s feeds their curiosity and entertains their inquisitive minds. As such, the Ripple Rug is NOT designed to be a rigid structure. Some cats prefer a less-soft carpet, so that they may hide under the ripples and folds. Once washed, the rug may be ironed (on the Polyester setting - (around 250-300F), to help create a newer ‘crisp’ feeling. Please read our Ripple Rug How-to section for complete 're-stiffening instructions'

I have 3 of these… because I have 4 cats. I have never seen my cats love anything more than they loved this. In my house, the cats preferred to uses these as kittens and slowly lost interest. I simply put the rugs away for a bit then reintroduced and wha la! They were back to loving them!!! I cannot overstate how enjoyable it is to watch them play in and on the rugs. My PRO TIP… buy some of those little furry mice (Play and squeak on amazon I believe) that squeak when they bat them, throw them inside the mounded up rug and use a wand to to lure the kittens towards the mice. They lose their minds lol. What a PURRRfect invention. Very heavy duty as in you can wash (I used cold water and unscented detergent) and air dry many times with no dissolving of the backing, no pilling and no deterioration of the Velcro. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I buy for any new kitten guardians as well. As the kittens get older, they may prefer to sleep upon the rug instead of playing as much, but this is awesome as the rug is so easy to clean, and often i can use my vacuum without the beater brush on to just tidy up any fur… LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Here are the bullet points for those who do not wanna read the whole review:

* EASY to clean - holds up for years with cold wash and air or hang dry (dries super quick either way)

* Non slip backing, rug will not slide on tile, wood or engineered flooring like Pergo, but also won’t jack up your carpet. I keep mine on various surfaces. Backing does NOT deteriorate when washed and dried with longevity in mind.

* Rug does not hold smells, as in if a kitten or sick cat pees on it, you do not even need to use enzyme cleaner pre wash if you do not want to.

* Velcro on topper does not lose strength, and due to the Velcro being heavy duty it does not seem to pick up cat hair or fuzzies meaning it never becomes useless

* CATS FRIGGIN’ LOVE IT

* No rubber smell when new, no need to air out like many products that have a rubber backing.

* Holds up extremely well to claws and scratching, very little sign of wear and take after 3 years, 4 cats

* Endless ways to form the topper, and tons of opportunity to provide hunting style play with small toys or treats

* Great cat sleeping mat if cats stop playing as much as when babies.

* Awesome photo ops of kitty eyes peeking out of holes, and heads popping out as seen in video
