Not for an avid reader

My 14 year old daughter requested this book and thought the first two chapters were great. After that she could barely read it because it was "rediculously predictable" . This is probably a good book for an occasional reader who isn't looking for the plot twists and character connections.. It is definitly not for an avid reader. My daughter is one of those types who has to own her books and reads everyday and will re-read her books inbetween new books. She said, "I don't want to keep this one, give it away."

Pre-teens love it, Moms loves it

I bought this book for my pre-teen step-daugther, and ended up reading it myself first. What a fun story! I liked that Trace sets a good example (doesn't give in to peer pressure, etc.) without the story becoming preachy or boring. Trace is a modern young woman that sets and reaches, her goals, and is true to herself. Oh, and my step-daughter and her friends loved it too, but probably not for the same reasons.

The Sure Thing

Like the best teen movies, So Lyrical is entertaining, funny, and not always tethered to mundane realism. Cook's engaging plot kept me turning pages, and she has a keen ear for the way teen girls talk to each other. So Lyrical isn't just about secret admirers and groupie moms; it's a lighthearted look at the often heartbreaking process of becoming an adult, of measuring yourself against your parents and your friends and struggling to make important decisions that reflect who you are even while not being completely sure of who you are. I always find that weighty stuff like that goes down a lot easier when it's wrapped in something like this delightful confection of a novel. If you're in search of a gloomy look at the horrors of adolescence, you've got plenty of choices; if you are looking for a fun, easy read that also happens to be packed with emotional truth, pick up So Lyrical.

"So Lyrical", so awesome!

If you want a hilarious book about a real person that is funny, sarcastic, and slightly neurotic, this is the book for you. This beats all of those books where the characters are completely unbelievable and outrageous. Trace is a regular teen with a funny, interesting and complicated life situation. I loved the references to music and was laughing out load a lot while I read.

I lent the book to a friend and my friend was supposed to watch a movie, and instead, started reading the book, couldn't put it down, and read it in one night! It's a real page turner. I can't wait for the next one to come out!!

Boring. Lame. And insulting to non-stereotypical teenagers.

I 100% agree with Ariel, down to the giving away an organ just to see The Lion King on Broadway [drama nerd]. I was completely bored with this book. The characters are so superficial, immature, and bluntly stupid.

Also the way the book was written was lame; every new event that happened was blurted out and it was completely predictable. And it makes everyone in America seem like a hardcore Springsteen fan . . . everything is just too perfectly layed out. One of the worst books I've ever read. It was amazing I actually finished it before dying of boredom.

I was glad when the book was over; I didn't have to read it anymore.

Oh yes, and not all teenagers are like this! Many, but not all.

A 13 year old's dream come true...and my nightmare come true

When I was a 13 year old girl I had a wild imagination, and this book would likely have been my dream come true then.

Only, when reading it now, when the characters are between the ages of 17-18, it's quite frustrating. The lack of believabilty makes the book lose all credibilty. It's impossible to relate to any of the characters, and the lack of detail makes Trace's struggle to find her father uninteresting.

When I finished the book I was so frustrated that I dropped the book in the tub.

Breezy, Humorous, & Fun to Read

I discovered this book from a review in the Orlando Sentinel. They describe it this way, "a Chicago-area teen grapples with boyfriend issues, trigonometry and her search for the identity of her long-lost dad."

It's written in the style of Chick Lit, meaning it is light, upbeat, modern fiction from the woman's viewpoint.

I LOVED this book! It's about time a book was written that showed a strong teenage girl that doesn't care about peer pressure. Trace is a young woman who knows what she wants out of life and who will make it happen. I wish I could be more like her. I can't wait to see what Trace does next.
