So So Satisfied is my favorite of all of the Ashford and Simpson albums. The entire contents are well written, arranged, and orchestrated. The shift between Richard Tee, and Valerie Simpson on piano is pretty much flawless. This album is the least commercial and therefore practically timeless. It opens with the pulsating, "Tried, Tested, and Found True" This song gets you up out of your seat and prepares you to be taken on a journey. The title song, "So So Satified" is beautifully arranged and I find myself repeatedly listening to it just to hear all of the instruments, and the melody. One song that people tend to sleep on, but is SO POWERFULLY WRITTEN, is "It's You". This song is the epitomy of true love songs. I am often surprised that A & S NEVER sing any songs from this album, and radio NEVER plays any song from this album (like on Quiet storm or old school radio). While most of A & S's music seems dated, and very disco, So So Satisfied, comes off more mellow with a mix of jazz, classical, gospel, blues, and pure funk. This album is WELL WORTH buying and should get more props than it does. It's a hidden treasure, so don't sleep on it!

One of the earliest A&S albums available on CD, this lp is less like their later 70's and 80's albums. It is less theatrical, quieter in its arrangements, more relaxed. It shows elements of folk and jazz in its soul, and it coheres as a whole album beautifully. The title track is a standout amongst the strong set, and "Over And Over" is included, a song covered several times, notably by Sylvester. The lp has held up exceptionally well over the past 25 years and along with Stay Free is one of the duo's two best albums on CD.

THIS WOULD HAVE TO BE THE WORST REMASTERING OF ANY OF THIER WARNER BROS RELEASES. IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY ARE SINGING IN A TUNNEL VERY MUDDY. ITS LIKE A RECORD BEING PLAYED WITH A WORN NEEDLE. WHOEVER REMASTERED THIS SHOULD BE APPALLED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN SUCH A GREAT CD RE RELEASE AS ITS A GREAT ALBUM...SUCH A SHAME I CANT BEAR TO LISTEN TO THE VERY POOR SOUND QUALITY. IF YOU CAN FIND THIER OTHER WARNERS RELEASES ON CD GO GET THEM THEY ARE MUCH BETTER SOUND QUALITY

In terms of their career as solo artists and performers this is very likely Ashford & Simpson's best and most realized album up until this point and one of the best overall albums they EVER made. The previous album Come As You Are is excellent, even a classic in it's way but this is something of a different matter. The difference comes in conception rather than sound which, actually is not all that different from that of it's predecessor. The band is the same and the songwriting definately comes from the same source but this is definately definately an album lengh exploration. The body of sound and rhythm of this album is extremely dynamic and allows a lot of different musical influences to flow in and out in various places. The two uptempo songs on this album "Tried,Tested And Found True" as well as "Over And Over" are as impressive as any A&S dance song ever was and the crafted within the arrangements is pumped up to another level, each having a few distinct parts in the way the best cinema-romantic funk can and that's more or less a terms I use to define the nature of this duo's uptempo material, even as produced for other artists. What really gets your attention here are the incredible midtempo tunes that dominate the rest of this recording. The bubbling bass riffs and the black noted, minor chorded arrangements on "Maybe I Can Find It" and the amazing title song both showcase how, very much like Smokey Robinson how many jazz type chords you'll find in Ashford & Simpson's music. I don't know the names of them but there are many notes and musical phrases I recognize from a lot of the jazz music of the period.Read more ›

For me, this album was instrumental in my becoming a singer, based on the structure and lyrical content of the songs selected. Valerie Simpson is absolutely phenominal on every lyric she sings, and Nick Ashford completly wrecks the house in his "rap" on "Over and Over". However, the opus "If You're Lying" closes out what I consider to be the second best album this duo released. BUY THIS CD!

That last song, ''If you're lying'' sounds like a revival at a church concert. That song alone almost had me doing the holy ghost in my room. "Over and Over" is one incredible piece that I think should have received more airplay. This group is truly gifted and I really do enjoy the vocals of Simpson.. man she got the chops to take anything. I highly recommend this album. Highly!
