Well it’s just too darn perfect and amazing to say anything about it, isn’t it??? I finally got it and lets just say I’m chuffed to bits and so glad I get to enjoy this over and over.

Whole album is a modern masterpiece. Calico is one of the coolest tracks I've ever heard. Avenue is obviously great too.

I am replacing my old CD collection with their vinyl counterparts, when possible, and this album was a must to include on my list! . Saint Etienne sounds Great on the 180gm. vinyl, and I appreciate very much being able to find the album and buy it! Very Cool indeed! Sincerely, Gregory Franks.

Finally, this sweet audio treat is on vinyl! However, I wish this would have been identified as the different British version rather than the American release I was expecting.

So Tough is just one of many exemplary recordings from a band that has rarely faltered in its 20+ year career.
This re-issue offered by Plain Recordings is a welcome opportunity to having this music on vinyl. The photo of the little girl, coupled with the gold/green color palette and the song list arranged on the front, makes this one of the band's best covers. Now its made even better on the larger-sized canvas of an LP. On the inside sleeve is printed a taxi license of someone credited in the album notes.
I cannot, however, give this LP version of So Tough a full five-star rating. Again, the artwork is cool and the audio-quality sounds fine to my ears (I don't have my CD copy to compare it with). Unfortunately, this LP features the original UK tracklist version, which is inferior to the version that was initially available in the United States in two ways. One, the retainment of the original album version of "You're In a Bad Way", which is fine in its own right, but not as engaging as the punchier, superior single-version that took its place on the US edition. Two, the US edition added the energetic single "Join Our Club" as the album closer, a much more satisfying way to end the album than the brief conversation snippet of "Chicken Soup". Both the single version of "You're In a Bad Way" and "Join Our Club" feature on nearly every Saint Etienne compilation (of which there are many, many, many, to choose from) so omitting them here is not depriving any fans of obtaining them, but they did work so nicely in the context of the album.
As Sarah Cracknell sighs "What a shame..."

There is no doubt that St. Etienne was one of the leading bands of the early 90's house (psychedelia) explosion in the UK. I noticed the band's first hit, Only Love Can Break Your Heart, immediately and became a life fan. So Tough is their second album, a follow up to their fabulous debut, Fox Base Alpha. Often, bands' second albums fail expectations but in this case, the follow up is just about as entertaining as their first. For those who are familiar with the band it's no reason to go through the song list, the magic speaks for itself when listened to. As for the 180g vinyl - I grew up with the sound from vinyl records in the 80's so it's like a warm breeze flowing in my ears! To fully appreciate the analogue experience, it's a must to have good quality stereo hifi system with subwoofer to maximize the energy. Lastly, I was very pleased with the delivery from Amazon, it arrived ahead of expected delivery time and therefore I give 5 stars.

Timeless album - London in the early 90's

I was hooked on this album in the early 90s when it felt to sum up perfectly a hot London summer day in the city.
I love it then and love it now.

This sounds really good on 180g vinyl which is not always the case but this one has been done really well.very much like the original press.

A fantastic album but this is the original release on CD ...

A fantastic album but this is the original release on CD and the sound quality isn't great, I understand there is a deluxe version and should probably have gone for that instead.
In saying that, if you crank up the volume this is a delight to listen to, not one bad track, they are all sweet pop songs with a wonderful nostalgia to them all mixed together with lots of retro samples from old movies and kitchen sink dramas.

Brilliant double-album

This is a must-have for any fans of St.Etienne; their second album expands on the promise of Foxbase Alpha with some exceptional tracks. Many of them also appear on various collection albums, but some wonderfully inventive pieces such as Conchita Martinez, Everlasting, and (their version of) Everything Flows are only to be found here.

IF you were a fan of St ETienne when they were in full swing quite a few years a go, you'll love this!
Very quirky and almost theatrical in their music, brings back all sorts of college day memories!
