"His mother glanced at him and then stopped sewing once she seen the small box in his hands."
"She noted that she spends money most weeks for ham and cheese for lunches at work and that alone was five dollars. She decided to cut that and start taking peanut butter and jelly instead."
The word "taking" sounds like medicine, not food. It is part of the skill of a professional author to select words that are appropriate.
Children's authors have a great responsibility to impressionable young readers.
I am sorry to be so harsh, but although the concept of the book was interesting, the read was very difficult, and I was unable to finish the book. If an adult author struggles with a read, just imagine how difficult it would be for a child reading this book. As an educationist, I feel that punctuation and grammar are important.
The dialogue in the book is stilted and does not come across as real.
There is a proliferation of adverbs in this book, where the author is lazy. Instead of suggesting an emotion, she uses words like excitedly. Why not show the emotion? For example, "Joe's eyes lit up" or "Jane clapped her hands in delight."
This book has not been formatted properly either. The spacing between paragraphs is uneven.
In sum, a carelessly written book, with lack of attention to detail and total disregard for the needs of its audience.
My problem is the writing. In a text for children, I feel it is important that the writing is perfect so that they learn correct grammar, sentence construction and spelling. This text is full of errors in all those departments. The conversations do not follow the rules. There are random capital letters and question marks. ‘To’ is used on more than one occasion when it should have been ‘too’. Apostrophes are missed out. There are spelling errors throughout.
At one point the chicken Billy is riding becomes a horse. At the beginning, Tiny is a she, then becomes a he, then reverts to a she. It is inexcusable for any writer, but specially one writing for impressionable children, to put something out there without proper, professional editing.
However, with that being said, the story itself was wonderful. I think it is sweet, has good relationships, is interesting, and is full of obstacles. It really is all about overcoming obstacles and making your dreams come true. If you believe in your dreams, and work hard towards them, then they can come true. This is meant for younger readers (kids, early teens), and would be very inspirational to them (heck, I found it inspiring).

Inspirational, however, sometimes a bit predictive and slow. A few typos, but I neglect them as the message from the book is good.
One good encouraging line in the book (That I personally loved) :
"I might not be tall, I might be small, but I will conquer you all."
