A long missed book

I have met the author at JiveWorld and inspired by his words decided to buy my very first Dummies book. I always thought that these books are for the typical beginners who have no clue, but I was wrong. I am a community manager, working in the so called enterprise 2.0 for many years and after having read throughout the book (keep in mind I only bought it yesterday and have only read a few chapters) I was in for a lesson. This book is one of the best ones I have ever come across this subject and a must read for all working in "social media business collaboration enterprise 2.0" beginners, advanced collaborators basically everybody who wants to reach out to his community!

A true bible on the topic

It was published as a "For Dummies" book, but it should have been called a bible. This is a well written book by an experienced journalist who had spent years covering social business, collaboration and online education technologies. The book looks at social collaboration from multiple angles: It will be useful for senior management, business and IT leaders as well as technology practitioners.

The book provides not only a high level overview of the subject but also dives into details, offers hands-on examples and reviews case studies. For all the information it provides, the book is a pleasure to read owing to the author's conversational writing style.

Great Simple How-to Guide for Emerging Social Businesses

Social Collaboration for Dummies provides a simple yet complete guide to a topic of emerging importance, how people collaborate to achieve improvements in knowledge sharing, engagement, innovation and productivity. Social media is changing the customer buyer journey, decision process and their expectations can only be effectively met and fulfilled by an empowered and social employee workforce.

David discusses these critical concepts and more in a concise and conversational tone that's informative and easy to digest. David Carr is a recognized Social Business and Collaboration expert and technology/business editor for publications such as Information Week and CIO Magazine.

I recommend this book to any business leader who needs to understand the impact of social and collaboration to emerging social businesses.

Good balance of technical and managerial

Carr writes an insightful, comprehensive guide to social collaboration in business. His style is conversational yet authoritative. A pleasure to read. He makes some good points, such as noting that "going social" doesn't need to be all or nothing. Adding social features, such as the ability to add comments to a document and @mention a specific person in an established workflow, can be quite useful. Another example: Social collaboration can make on-boarding new employees perhaps more welcoming by giving them a place to look at FAQs and ask live questions of new colleagues. Chapter 9's cautionary section on "the true cost" of free trials is useful. Carr moves easily between the technical -- Jive, cloud, integration standards -- and the conceptual and leadership issues. His knowledge is vast and deep.

Dave is a real pro. He ranks highly among tech journalists with whom I have worked. You will learn from the practical examples in the book and Dave's experience.
