Extremely disappointed in this book. Husband having to write a paper on Social Networking Analysis for a graduate level class. John Scott (author) appears to be a significant contributor to The SAGE Handbook of Social Network Analysis. Husband was looking for a good concise "What is" book to help frame the introduction from which to branch off into peer journal articles. Read sample and thought OK - right structure History, Key concepts, Applications of SNA, criticism and FAQs, Software for SNA. - I'm willing to pay the Kindle price. A complete waste of money! Amazon, you should be ashamed of selling this book. Key concepts about 18 Kindle pages on large type, Applications about 20 pages. Ok, maybe 20 pages sounds like a lot of different applications, but Scott only discusses 3 types of application of the technology ( Diffusion and flow of information, Citations studies and sociology of science, Interlocking directorships). Maybe "further reading" would suggest more application areas -- but first 6 are references for the 3 types of applications he discusses, next four are new applications Scott does not mention, then he points to 2 works that he edited. The first lists 6 topics he does not cover and then throws in "and many other topics". In the second, Scott offers his 4 volume work with separate volumes for whole domains of uses.

Don't waste your money like I did for this book. This book fails as an attempt to concisely discuss the topic.
