Three things you should never do:
① Work for the mafia.
② Be in a government raid.
③ Trade your life away to a hot demigod you accidentally summon in exchange for a wish.
Josephina "Jo" Espinosa just did all three.
Now, she's the newest member of the Society of Wishes. The Society's mansion? Too lavish to be real. Their jobs? Impossible. And the secrets? Deadly. Here, Jo finds out she has no choice but to use her newfound destructive magic to help grant the wishes of mortals.
Her money problems may be gone, but her magic problems are just starting. And her new boss, the impossibly attractive Snow, might be the biggest problem of them all.
The Society is becoming more deadly by the day and Jo must unravel the secrets of Snow's past before her magic unravels the very fabric of the world.

ELISE KOVA is a USA Today bestselling author. She enjoys telling stories of fantasy worlds filled with magic and deep emotions. She lives in Florida and, when not writing, can be found playing video games, drawing, chatting with readers on social media, or daydreaming about her next story.
Lynn Larsh considers herself to be a serial hobby-dabbler. She got a bachelors degree in music (which she used for all of four months), studied aerial acrobatics and classical piano for many years, worked briefly as a stunt woman in a Wild West stunt show (it's a long story), and eventually settled down into the bar tending business in St. Petersberg, FL. When she's not acting as a purveyor of fine libations, you can find her diving head first into her newest venture as a New Adult author, or simply writing Voltron fan fiction on Archive of Our Own.
Currently, Lynn is looking forward to her debut novel, SOCIETY OF WISHES (Wish Quartet, #1), out January 2018.

"It was hotter than Satan's tit outside..."
The transition from Jo's ordinary life to her Society of Wishes life actually came across as abrupt for my taste. Her use of magic that turns out to be real, even as she claimed in her mind that she didn't believe it would work, felt strange, like she would have had to at least had a more present if slight belief before even attempting this sort of thing.
Meeting the rest of the Society was interesting, considering they come from different time periods. Snow, the leader, reminded me of the hero of an anime, from his white hair to his attitude. Wayne, a New York type from the early 20th century, was such an aggravating character that I wanted to kick him in the shins whenever he talked, though I'll admit he did grow on me.
Jo, while confronting the newness of her life as a member of the Society, was a lot braver than I would've been. Her background in hacking, avoiding detection, and generally being smarter than the average person helped her cope with the headquarters weirdness, avoiding Ranger officers (they couldn't see her anyway but still!), and learning about her new life.
The (I hesitate to say romance) intimate moments in this book felt like they came a bit out of nowhere. Jo and her feelings toward Snow, her intimacy with Wayne...I could see her acknowledging attraction to one or more of the people she meets, but the sex scene in Paris, while admittedly well written, was abrupt and I didn't care for it.
The action of the book felt like it took a lot longer to get started than I would've liked. The first 48% of the book was mostly Jo acclimating to living in the Society headquarters, almost every detail gone over such as whose room is where, what the mansion provides in the recreation rooms vs. the bedrooms, and so on. Things started picking up around the 50% point and got a bit better, but things still felt like they were crawling a bit.
After finishing the novel and considering the pacing and the lack of engagement I felt with the characters and the story, I realized that, as long as it was, not a lot really happened. The difficulties that arose felt less than climatic so there was no real "big bad" or "villain", so to speak. That disappointed me.
I can see a lot of potential for development in the course of the series. Society of Wishes, to me, was obviously an introductory novel to the world and its rules as opposed to a novel that embraced the story and went onward, revealing things as the narrative unfolds.
I received a copy of this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review.
The age old saying is be careful what you wish for. Well Josephina 'Jo' is a hacker-for-hire in a very different reality than we know, a fractured US. Then one day on a job her best friend and her are caught and as bullets rain down she uses her last breathe to make a wish, something she remembered from her grandmother in days past. Her wish is simple enough to save her friend and she will accept the price no matter the cost. The cost, she is now a member of the mysterious Society of Wishes set to live among the other members in a separate time space and use her gifts to help grant future wishes. Though she is given the plush new digs and can do pretty much anything her new home lacks one major aspect…freedom and purpose. Checking in on her friend to ensure her wish was put to good use she finds him about to attempt the same task that got them both killed to start with. Now what do you do when interfering is against the rules?
This was a quick read for sure and I did really enjoy the concept. A magical society that grants wishes that alter the reality. I loved the idea of them being from all different worlds and time periods and each with their own power. The way they live is rather unique and we are only just getting to know a few of them as Jo learns her place and tries to accept her new reality. This book is more about her than anything else. There isn’t some big bad guy / evil to face down just a new reality to accept that basically tears apart everything you knew in the world.
We are still getting to know this world but this was a good start. I can see the start of some much bigger questions and I look forward to watching unfold. The characters have peeked my interest and I look forward to learning more about the other members of the society and the society as a whole. Thankfully the sequel, Circle of Ashes, comes out next week April 9th so I won’t have to wait long.

An interesting concept regarding the granting and making of Wishes were woven into a magical intriguing story . This is the first of the series , so the book is busy with becoming acquainted with all the characters and i cannot want to see what develops between Jo and Snow!

I went in blind when I started this and for me that was probably best. It is different to her other works and initially I wasn’t sure if it was for me, but there came a point - somewhere beyond chapters 10-13ish - where I just couldn’t stop reading and I ended up finishing the book in a day.
Sorry neglected house and people.
There was a hint of romance, some sexy times and some very interesting complex characters whom we are getting to know - often i found these just as interesting as our lead.
Hoping that our hinted at love interest progresses with the next books - i feel this would be epic!
All four books will be realised in 2018 which is a huge plus also - love that and feel ill probably be hanging waiting for each one!
Definitely recommended!!!!!
