- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2014I read the first one & enjoyed it, read this one & liked it even more. The story is developing better as time goes on. it was one of those books that you pick up & don't put down until you're finished reading it. I'm really looking forward to the third book. You should read the first book before engaging in this one though. My only complaint was the way the book jumped around on different characters. Way to much back & forth. Some chapters would leave you on a cliffhanger then you'd have to read two more chapters about other characters to make your way back to the cliffhanger moment. That happened several times. Almost made me want to skip chapters about other characters just to find out what happened to the characters I was reading about in the first place. It wasn't a huge ordeal but I found it frusturating at times. Kind of like when you're watching a movie & it gets to the good part then goes to a commercial. Minor issue considering that the book was really good though.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 12, 2014It's the second book in the series and I think the second book by this author period. Well written and edited with very few grammatical errors (unlike a lot of Amazon books). I like this genre and it was very entertaining. The story picks right up where the first book left off. There was a difference in time lines that didn't really make sense with the NYPD officers. They only spent a few weeks doing what they did while the entire first book took place? It wasn't too difficult to get by that though. And like the first book, some parts are not too believable. How many special ops type characters can they run into? But it does keep the story entertaining. Without giving anything away, this author is not afraid to kill off characters. He just replaces them with new ones. I'm still not sure if I like that, but it does add realism. This story delves a little more into the reasons why this all happened and provides a big picture background. It also pulls out some FEMA conspiracy theories. There is a character introduced that seems really interesting that the author didn't get too far into. I can't remember his name, but the guy who owned the gun shop and used do do secret government work. I assume if there's going to be a book three, this character will be expanded on and I look forward to it. Because these people are going to need him and others like him if they are going to survive the pending government crackdown. I hope to see a book three soon. I'd pay a couple bucks for it or borrow it for sure. Oh and it's a fairly long book too. Not one of those stories an author breaks up into several smaller stories just to try and sell more once you get into the story. I would recommend this book if you like survival type shtf stories.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2014This was a worthy sequel to the first. I enjoyed the new characters, as well as the continuing story of those we met in book 1. While still there, I think the grammar errors were fewer in this volume. I didn't expect perfection, and was not disappointed.
Some food for thought, but not surprisingly, I think many of the situations the characters encountered were less than realistic. But I think it does capture the dark side of people that is only a couple missed meals away from the surface, and the book was definitely entertaining, and certainly left me looking forward to the next one!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2014I read the first book, and enjoyed it despite that it needs some additional editing for grammar and sentence structure. The author also needs some additional research into some of the firearms terminology. For example, the term "clip" is consistently used in place of the correct term "magazine." Another example, is that an M1 Garand is not loaded from a 10 round stripper clip. Overall an enjoyable read, which could be another star "higher" with just a little more work.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2014The story started in the first novel in this author's series continues in this tense, brutal, sequel. Editing problems and some plotholes continue, which is why I subtracted one star. Character development for the main characters is good, though FEMA personalities and misc. bad guys remain monolithic. There are many useful prepping tips and there is a lot of discussion about various guns that is interesting. I also enjoyed the attached essay at the end of the book on sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. I suspect many of the medical interventions performed by non-doctors in the story would not have been possible, much less successful, in a post-collapse environment due to absence of available supplies and sterile enivronments, but it was intriguing to see what could pass as successful medical care without adequate tools and equipment, much less electricity or surgeons.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2014WOW! What a turn around from his first novel. The story line has always been really well thought out, but the grammar was horrid. I couldn't keep focused on what I was reading.
This time around he has cleaned up the grammar, punctuation, and with few exceptions has gotten it right. Still a couple of "then" when you meant "than", etc, but no comparison.
While I could not, in good conscious recommend his first book because of the poor use of the English language, I am VERY HAPPY TO SAY THAT I CAN'T WAIT TO READ HIS NEXT WORK.
Way to go Jeremy, you hit this one out of the park...and what GREAT PLOT TWISTS...I sure didn't see those coming!

Laser WriterReviewed in the United Kingdom on April 8, 20144.0 out of 5 stars Good storyline
Found the book very interesting and have just ordered the sequel. Like one or two other books I have read recently it would have benefitted from proof reading before going on sale as this would have removed spelling errors etc. but, as I say, this has not stopped me from ordering the sequel.
julie smithReviewed in the United Kingdom on June 28, 20143.0 out of 5 stars Decent story but
Enjoying the story but really far too much description and emphasis on the guns and armoury selected. I love end of world scenario fiction but much prefer emphasis on the story and personal accounts really what gun they are carrying doesn't interest me. Also some glaring wrong words and bad spelling. Needs a proof reader to go through it.
Enjoyable story but book could be better.
