Product Description

All plastic soda or "pop" bottles start as a small plastic tube called a preform. When this preform is heated and blown into a bottle shape, it is ready to be filled with your favorite carbonated beverage. Our preforms come with full-sized final threaded openings so they use standard plastic soda bottle tops (included). Use them for a problem-solving activity by seeing if your students can guess their use. All bottle caps may be used again and again. These preforms are air and water tight when covered tightly with a bottle top and so are perfect for collecting or storing liquid samples. Preforms are ~11 cm long x 2.5 cm in diameter (~4.3" x 1"). Interior volume of preform is approximately 25 cc (~0.84 fluid oz). The polymer in our baby soda bottle preforms is polyethylene terephthalate, commonly known as PET. This polymer has a monomer formula mass of C10H8O4, a melting point of 260o C, and a specific heat of 1.0 kJ/(kg-K). It has a glass temperature of 70o to 80o C, when it starts to soften. Package contains 30 Preforms and 30 bottle caps. Bottle caps sold separately as well. Cap color may vary. Note: Our new preforms are slightly shorter than prior models but they will still fit in your Preform Rack (TT-100) - and they're still perfect for Super! Wow! Neat! experiments.

Like several reviewers, I purchased these to store brewing yeast. The preforms exceeded my expectations. The vial are a thick plastic with a lid similar to a soda bottle cap. They are 5.5" long and 1" wide. Because of my intended use, I tested the caps for 4 hours checking for leaks. Everything stayed in the vial. I see many additional uses and will recommend this product to my friends and family.

These babies are just plain awesome. I'm using them in my BOB kit, the medical section, to house pills. Easy to put a label on. Will also work on mini kits--like fishing or sewing kits or to house fire starting tinder bits and ferro rod or even to carry spices/flavorings in your mess kit.

Pretty much indestructible (obviously, avoid heat). Take the time to carefully and slowly put on the lids for the first time (as they are in 'lock' mode with the rings), and enjoy seeing instantly if a tube's been opened or not. And if you lose a lid, don't fret, just snag one from a soda bottle you pick up at the store.

Would work great in lunches or on trips. Or to carry a mini EDC kit in your bag, purse or coat. Only limited to your imagination. Get some, well worth the cost to have a small practically bomb proof vault.

I really wanted the larger transparent soda bottle preforms but they were going to take longer to ship. I ordered these because they would come in a couple of days. I used them to make density columns with candy. They actually worked out great in these smaller tubes and though they are a grey translucent, we could still see the different colors in the column. These things are phenomenal as containers for a small amount of material (Including the cap, it is about 6" tall x 1.25" diameter - the width of a soda bottle cap). I filled it up with water and it holds about 1/6 of a cup of water (3 holds 1/2 a cup of water). I am using them for camping to hold salt, pepper (filled all the way is way too much pepper), and sugar. I particularly like how solid they are and that they are water tight.

I had a multiple item order so I am not sure if the 2-day shipping delay had to do with the Pre-forms or one of the other items I ordered (fyi, i am an Amazon Prime member and shipping tends to be very fast).

My biggest "complaint" is that I did not realize such a product existed..

Lids do not seem to fit on the vial all that well. The caps are equipped with the tamper seal but they do not engage the tube neck and tear off when the cap is removed. They also do not seem to seal all that well no matter how tightly you screw them on.

The body of this preform is as sturdy as ever, but unfortunately, they have changed the caps to a very flimsy plastic. The old ones held up outdoors for years. These clearly will not. It doesn't matter how sturdy the container is if the cap fails. I just hope they are still waterproof. If using outdoors, I'd recommend keeping the cap protected from sunlight.
