Oh, so you are supposed to pull the lever and push up? Sorry, I've never had a machine like this. The great part was when the instructions said to pull the lever and allow the pressure to release. It would have been nice if my small sticker had let me know that . Instead, we unscrewed the bottle and wondered why it was popping. If this all seems stupid to you, well ok. But I've never worked with carbonation in my life. Some decent instructions would have been helpful.
Also, I had another small sticker that said to pump and wait for 3 puffs. Then, I read the instruction manual I downloaded and it said to pump three times. Needless to say, the instructions need help.
I have no idea why soda stream would skimp in this way, especially after product recalls last year. Yes, I was afraid of this thing exploding.
After I read the instructions, and some helpful tips here, it worked. The best tip was the person who said to make sure the water was cold and then to let the bottle stay on the machine for a bit. This lets the carbonation get into the water. That definitely made for better carbonation. I opened and closed the bottle a few times and the water stayed carbonated. I was surprised at how good it was.
I have attached a shot of the instructions in case anyone needs them.
All SodaStream systems are ridiculously simple: there's a big canister of CO2 that gets pumped into a bottle of water: each big canister has enough to fill 60L (this compares to ISI that I used to use many years ago, which had one charger per bottle).
The packaging is great: it's just plain cardboard, and going from box to drinking is no more than 5 minutes.
The size is also good, and fits in my counter perfectly.
The tilt-and-lock, which this model has, is vastly superior to the twist-load like the Genesis.
This model doesn't let you customize (my wife likes lightly carbonated, my son and I prefer heavy) nor does it puff the way it's supposed to - three puffs - in order to let you know when to stop. The Source is the only one I found that does
The bottles are a little small: .89 quarts is enough to fill two pint glasses. A few extra let you keep a bunch in the fridge, which helps the seltzer's taste.
All of them are good, but the Source is definitely the best.
I have raved about it to a friend and if she hasn't purchased one by Christmas...Perfect Gift checked!
