This is book 4 and the conclusion of the Bittersweet series. You need to read the previous books because not only are there spoilers, but the other books tie into this final one and you'll miss important details and not know the characters as you should at this point. This is Sofia's (Marcela's) story about how she came to be Hector's possession and about the years she lived in the Florez mansion.

Sofia's real name is Marcela and her sister was Sofia. They take a trip on a super yacht with Sofia's boyfriend Alex and his friend Xavier. For several days the group lounges around, swims and enjoys their time together. On several occasions, Marcela feels as though the others are hiding secrets from her, but she decides to ignore it and concentrate on having fun. This all comes to a tragic end when the yacht is boarded by unwanted visitors. There are deaths, drugs, Marcela loses her name/identity and her nightmare of becoming a cartel leader's slave begins.

I felt so sorry for Marcela. She was a wonderful character and even though anyone else would be broken by what she endured, Marcela never gave up on the hope that one day she would leave and have her freedom. Just like in Laughing Eyes, we are able to gain an entirely different perspective of books 1-2 by seeing the events from Marcela's eyes. She is not the cold uncaring slave you think she is and we now have a better understanding of her actions and attitude. Marcela lived through years of many unthinkable events and is treated horribly over and over again. Hector and Juan really are monsters. Once again I fell in love with Aiden and his protective and caring nature.

I won't give away specific spoilers, but I will tell you that this story continues after the scene where Hector and Juan are killed. (That's not a spoiler since we witnessed their deaths in an earlier book.) There is a beautiful ending, one that I could not have dreamed up to be better. Great conclusion to a good series.

Oh this book!! I wanted to read this book ever since I finished Laughing Eyes, the wait was totally worth it. This book is the perfect conclusion to the Bittersweet series. I highly recommend reading the first three books in the series before reading Sofia. Sofia is such a strong character and my heart broke numerous times for her. Melissa did a phenomenal writing this. The ending to this series was bittersweet and brought a tear to my eye, happy tears of course. I highly recommend this series.

I was so excited to get this book, like stupidly excited. I have absolutely loved every book in this series so far, and just knew Sofia would be no different.
Little Doll & Crimson Desert were the first 2 books in the series, and followed the story of Laila and Aiden, which was a powerful and addictive story. Then Laughing Eyes was different characters, it was a character who had shown up in the previous books, but now got his own story, Danny. That was also an incredibly intense story, which had me holding my breath pretty much throughout. It was dark, gritty and shocking, but most of all it was incredibly sad. So as much as I was excited for Sofia, I was really nervous and hoping there would be fantastic ending in store for all the characters.

Sofia follows the journey of another character who had shown up in the first 2 books. We didn't get to see a lot of her, but enough to wonder what had happened to her, and what her story was. Which is why it's incredibly important, for you to read the other books before this one. Each story links up in some way or another, and if you skip one, you will miss a chunk of an overall big picture. Plus, you seriously wouldn't want to skip any, they are all incredible.

So anyway, the story starts with 2 gorgeous sisters. So different from each other, yet very close. The youngest invites her older sister to come on a yacht trip, with her and her boyfriend, Alex. Although dubious, quiet and smart Marcela decides to go along.
So on this huge, gorgeous yacht for the w/end, is where they meet another friend of her sister's boyfriend, Xavier. He is stunning, and mysterious. Obviously keeping a lot of secrets, but he likes Marcela and they seem to be quite attracted to each other.

WARNING: If you've not read the other books in the Bittersweet Familia series then this review may contain spoilers. These books cannot be read as standalones and must be read in order.

This is Sofia's story who we first met in Little Doll. You may remember her as the woman at Hector's mansion who was in charge of getting the girls ready for the nights they were to be paraded in front of potential buyers. Now, she didn't come off particularly well in Little Doll in her dealings with Laila but this book really helps you to understand what she was going through and how the things she did she did only to survive. Some parts of this book are hard to read, Sofia went through so much that you can only admire her strength and durability.
You get to find out how Sofia to came to be at the hell on earth that is Hector's mansion and it gives you a great understanding of her character. The events of this story occurred in Little Doll and Crimson Desert but obviously we see it from Sofia's point of view. I did find at around 70% in that because I knew what was coming my interest wasn't as piqued as it could have been but reading from Sofia's POV was giving me a different enough view point that I still enjoyed the story.
I was very pleased with the ending and overall I have immensely enjoyed this series. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to pick up more of this authors work.
