Editorial Reviews

If you have ever relaxed in a nice lounge and listened to lite Jazz, you will appreciate Lola Albright's performance. This double album set, representing Miss Albrights entire recorded output, is very pleasing in a subtle, vampy sort of way.

Very nice CD. Some of the same songs she sings on the tv show Peter Gunn.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Henry Mancini only arranged and conducted records for two solo singer records - this one and a CD of classic movie songs in the 1980s with Johnny Mathis. So if you are a Mancini collector, this one is essential. Mancini did a lot of choral work, but backing up individual singers - not so much. Lola and Johnny only.

Lola Albright is an excellent singer. The promise she shows in excerpts on the "Peter Gunn" TV show is fully realized on this record. Lola's got that Ella thing with excellent delivery of the lyrics. Plus half the songs on the "Dreamsville" LP are Mancini themes from "Peter Gunn" with lyrics by either Sammy Cahn or Livingston and Evans. Fans of the "Peter Gunn" and "Mr. Lucky" records will love this set.

The Dean Elliott album that Lola did earlier which is included on this CD is a real surprise. First-rate cocktail lounge music, and I consider that high praise. Lola is a fine singer.

I first became aware of Lola Albright from late night viewings of "Peter Gunn" on a local TV station. She was marvelous as Pete's girlfriend and lounge singer at Mother's & later her own place. When I found she had a couple of albums, I looked in Amazon to see if they were available.

I'm glad I did order this set of both albums. She had a lovely, sexy voice that still sounds great - like any good musician should. I'm amazed she only recorded the 2 albums combined on this cd. I presume the problem was the initial sales but, after her popularity on Gunn, I find it hard to believe people didn't pick these up.

While we have nothing else from her other than the snippets on the show & these albums, I highly recommend her. She had a voice you can fall in love with.

The underrated Lola Albright really shines here, evoking the smoky magic of late-night city life in the 1950s ... night clubs & neon, saloons & sultry shadows, private eyes & private heartaches. While her voice has its limits, she uses what she's got to full advantage & makes it sound wonderful, just filled with bluesy, jazzy ambience & longing. You can almost see the flickering of cigarettes in the twilight, the gleam of rain-slick streets; and you can practically hear the clinking of cocktail glasses, the hazy murmur of languid & lonely conversations in the background. Perfect music for a moody retro-evening!

Nice CD but has a Hugh amount of time between some songs.

Lola Albright's velvety voice makes this an excellent value and enjoyable listening experience. Add to that two albums including one under the direction of Henry Mancini makes this an absolute steal and a must for all Lola Albright fans and those who wish they could have had a table front seat in "Mother's" on the Peter Gunn set back in the late 50s. Check it out!

This talent from the Peter Gunn show usually did not get to finish her songs before the scene shifted to one of Peters adventures. Here you can get the whole show uninterrupted. It is a nice sound. Somewhat reminds me of Julie London. Both are great in their own right. I tend to visualize the personality and the "looks" from the Peter Gunn show while I am quietly listening to Lola Albright in a dimly lit room in the evening.

The first earlier album is interesting for historic value, but it's not very good listening. Ms Albright isn't a Hall of Fame singer, but the connection with the classic RCA Peter Gunn show/album, with the original musicians, and fleshed out with clever lyrics by American Songbook giants Sammy Cahn, Jay Livingston and Ray Evans pushes the second part of the two-fer up to almost five stars- particularly for fans of the Tv show. Listened in total, the non-Mancini tunes on Dreamsville half dovetail nicely. I've had Dreamsville for years, and bought the CD to replace my scratchy copy Audio is comparable but not an improvement to the vinyl on this very early stereo engineering. Those who aren't familiar with the whole Peter Gunn/Cop Show/Bachelor Pad milieu, who are seeking classic jazz might be in the dark about the coolness quotient.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lola Albright..Actress, singer, model

Columbia Records signed Albright as a vocalist, leading to the release of her album Lola Wants You in 1957. Albright's subsequent role on Peter Gunn and her performances singing on that series led directly to her second album, Dreamsville (1959), which was arranged by Henry Mancini and featured his orchestra.Albright is one of the few nonmovie-soundtrack singers for whom Mancini arranged.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Purchase
Reviewed in Canada on July 23, 2019
Who would ever imagine that a TV show back in the early 1960 would be available in color. Magically such a great buy would be available for our home use. I believe Lola Albright was perfect as her role in Peter Gunn as Eden, what a beauty she was and I have this record since the very beginning. Thank you Seller for a wonderful transaction her voice is so beautiful.
