I'm going to give you TMI so you can make the most informed decision with these. I've got menorrhagia (think raging period, super heavy, super long, super crampy). I soak through Ultra tampons like nobody's business for at least the first half of my period, so I'm always looking for other solutions. Also, full disclosure, I've had kids, so I know that changes anatomy a bit, too, though I don't have any noticeable issues that should cause problems. Aaaanyway, I gave these four stars overall, because they've got some real pros, especially if you've got periods on the lighter side or average at most, but they've also got some cons. In honesty, I can't use the disc for the heaviest part of my period; I've really tried, but when wearing one, I end up leaking suddenly (in gushes, because the cup overflows or I move in a way that creates a gap) in a short amount of time, and it's SUPER messy to empty it while it's still in there or remove it — you use your bare fingers/hands for this, and I look like I've murdered something and use a ridiculous amount of toilet paper and time to clean up (and pray I don't accidentally get anything on clothing). There's also not a great way to dispose of it even after dumping the blood, so I end up wrapping it in tp and stuffing back into the wrapper and hoping no one thinks they've stumbled upon a crime scene. Therefore, Ultra tampons that I replace ad nauseam are the cleanest solution for my heavy days. Having said that, the discs are great for the lighter part of my period. They're easy enough to insert (the company makes a helpful video for this, so be sure you get this right), and though I empty frequently throughout the day while still inside by reaching up there, tilting the disc, and then repositioning when empty (no real way to get around this being messy, so push up your sleeves!), they do last a long time, and I can keep in the whole day; they also do the job on light nights and don't have to fight gravity. These don't have risk of TSS, so I have more peace of mind when wearing these than I do with tampons. Also, once in, they're definitely comfortable with no irritation or friction like tampons can cause, and I've been able to do everything from swim to have sex without issue, so those are big upsides. I also really did notice fewer cramps when wearing these, even when I was experimenting with wearing them during my heavy days, so I know it wasn't just because of the timing during my cycle. So the bottom line is that you should always test with your specific flow (on a low-risk day around the house, not at the office!), but I suggest using these for lighter days or if you max out at Super tampons rather than Super Plus or Ultra. They're comfortable and functional (again, you can have a romp in these — towel optional) with no link to TSS, and they even seem to reduce cramping, but they're not tidy to use. Also notable, this brand is much more cost effective than some of the fancier brand versions out there, which I've tried, and I think they work the same. Overall, worth a go. Best of luck!

Tips and Tricks From a VERY Longtime User

Just a quick warning: there is some TMI in this review, but hey, we’re all going through this, amirite?

I have been using this product for - I kid you not - 25 years, since back in the ‘90s when they were still called “Instead.” I had horrible, heavy periods, and getting through school during my cycle was a nightmare. My mom went on a crusade to find me a product that could ameliorate it, and after a lot of trial and error, she found these, and I have never looked back.

Here’s the deal: for those of us with menorrhagia, just the disc alone will not be enough on heavy days, and especially overnight. This isn’t the fault of the product; it just is what it is. Get you some of that newfangled absorbent period underwear (when I was a teenager they were paper and like adult diapers - and noisy!), and line it with a pad (which have also vastly improved and no longer resemble a Barbie mattress). Your clothes and bedding will thank you. Side note: menorrhagia is not normal and something we’re just supposed to “put up with.” I was told this my whole menstruating life, and found out very late in the game that it’s not true. Find a new doctor if they tell you that.

Not gonna lie, when these leak, they leak big. But! You don’t have to change it every time you leak. Just sit on the potty and sort of… bear down, and gravity will do the rest. Because they only fill up and don’t absorb, you won’t go through them nearly as fast, and you will still feel so much cleaner and more comfortable than a pad alone or with a tampon that does absorb everything and then gets all slimy and slippery (I’m sorry for the mental image, but anyone reading this already knows what I’m talking about).

Another tip: get you some food prep gloves. When it comes time to change the cup, use the glove when you pull it out, dump the contents, then simply turn the glove inside out around the cup so that it contains everything, and you won’t look like you’ve just committed a horrifying murder.

One last thing: these things are so comfortable and effective that on your light days, it’s easy to forget you’re even on your period. Which is great! Except if you forget to take the thing out. Thankfully, my record is only about 24 hours, and it’s only happened a few times over the last two and a half decades, and I haven’t had any ill effects from it, but I mean… ick. So, y’know, just remember it’s in there.

Anyway, if you’ve been thinking about trying these but just weren’t sure about them, I’d definitely give it a whirl. I will reiterate the recommendation to get some gloves, though. I like the food prep kind because they’re lightweight and you can get a box of 1000 for like ten bucks. Seriously, one box will last like five years.

I have been a cup user for several years but since having babies they just don’t feel comfortable any more. I was hoping these discs would work but even after many attempts at inserting them and reading directions and looking at diagrams they leaked like crazy, did not seem to catch hardly anything. The only thing I can say is they are way more comfortable than the cups, I couldn’t even feel them. I am going to try a different brand/size to see if that works. I wish there was a sample pack you could get with different sizes to see what fits, but at least I did not dish out tons of money with these.

gedrückt wird. Klappt einwandfrei. Und unterwegs oder auf Arbeit keine Sauerrei.
3. Entfernen - simpel und schnell. Ja ist eine kleine Schweinerei - aber mit der Tasse war das ja auch nicht
anders. Je öfter das praktiziert wird um so sicherer und sauberer wird die Angelegenheit.
4. Maximale Freiheit - Schwimmen, Sauna, Sport u.s.w. ohne Bändchen oder Angst vor dem "Auslaufen".
5. Kosten - sind wirklich teuer - kann man nicht schön reden - aber für diese Art der Unbeschwertheit und
fast "vergessen" zahle ich diesen Preis.

Für mich eine tolle und andere Art mit meiner starken Periode umgehen zu können.

I think this is probably the first review I have ever posted on a product I have brought, but tried these and they are too good to not review.

So simple to insert, I actually found it easy than tampons. It was comfortable as soon as it was inserted, never felt it and never leaked.

I managed to keep mine in for 7 hours with a heavy flow, and quite a bit of exercise without it leaking. I suppose they are like tampons you eventually learn the length of duration as you go. It leaked a tiny bit after the 7 hours which was obviously a sign to change, but I always wear either a pad or liner anyway:l.

Removal was a lot messier than tampons, however nothing major.

I’m definitely moving onto these from now on and going to look at a reuse-able one. 100/10!!
