I wasn't so sure about buying a cheap solar pannal, but this met my needs. I'm making a rube goldburg device for a State Science Olympiad meet for an event called Mission Possible. One of the tasks required using a solar panel to start a motor which leads to the next task. While I had to get a powerful light to make it work (Yes, it can use artificial light) the point is it did. It's not very good, about what you'd expect for 10 bucks, but it works, In my contraption, It knocks down a card, which hit's a mouse trap that pops a balloon.
*One thing though, If the fan is spinning the wrong way, invert the wires. :)

Can be used to "make" other solar devices or just to demonstrate how solar energy can power a device. Warning: The solar cell is not extremely powerful and needs a good bit of light to work. It's inexpensive and good for display purposes mainly.

I was scrambling for a good demo for my daughter's 1st grade science fair in school until I came across this kit. This was exactly what I needed and my daughter understood the concept and was able to clearly explain what was happening. And for the kit itself, It worked perfectly when placed under a strong light (>100 Watts) or directly under the sunlight. A must have for those who need a good demonstration for a solar energy science fair presentation.

I can say that when the solar cell receives light, the fan runs, but there is no measurable air flow even when it is very close to your face. Good kit to show kids how solar power works, but not for any use to move air at all.

Pretty cool project kit for the money. We made a small fan out of this and it works well while in the sun. Not so much with indoor light unless very bright. For the Money you can take this and a childs imagination and have a blast.

I bought a pair of these to scare away woodpeckers outside my house. It is important to note it only works in direct sunlight so it will not work in overcast days.
