I saw the sun...and it opened up my eyes!

I was pleasantly surprised. I used this film to build my own solar filter with cardboard and it's awesome. Someone on reddit posted a photo of the sun taken with an H-Alpha scope they day this arrived, so I knew my expectations were going to be off.

But, when I finally got my filter built, and slipped over the scope, I was a little shocked. . . the sun spots were so vivid, and the sun's surface is clearly quite turbulent.

I also really like the coloration. I've seen photos taken with the Baeder film (which produces a white image) wherein the photographers used software to add some yellow color to their images . . . in the end, their images looked just like what you see through this black polymer.

(The photo of the sun below was taken with my cell phone held up to the eyepiece. It really doesn't do this filter justice.)

A good solar filter for solar viewing and photography

Good quality solar filter sheet - I used this to protect my Canon digital camera during the eclipse - - the result was great photos of the eclipse, and the sun was yellow (and not orange colored, as seen using other solar viewing films). Sunspots were easily visible, as were solar flares and prominences during the eclipse.

My only suggestion for improvement would be having a cardboard perimeter for handling the filter and avoiding finger prints on the filter film.

I purchased this film for the 2017 Great American Solar Eclipse and it performed flawlessly (I can still see, that's how I know).

The film is thin but it is durable. I started by taping the film to the end of a telescope, and then later removed it to trim it and attach it to the lens of an SLR camera. It allowed me to get very nice pictures of the eclipse without trouble. I also used the leftovers from lens attachment to make a viewer for my two year old and he loved it as well.

Great for making your own filters.

I used this to make my own filters to put over the objective lenses of my camera and binoculars for the eclipse. I just made simple carboard squares that slipped over the ends and taped pieces of the filter sheet across them. That way I could easily remove them for totality and replace them right after without a lot of fuss. It worked perfectly. I got a great view through the binoculars, and some amazing shots with my camera.

Good for viewing - not so good for photography

I used this for the August 21st solar eclipse and it worked well for the most part. Made viewing the eclipse easy and fun. However, photographing through this filter left the edges of the sun a little blurred. Still, for my purposes it worked well and the price was right.
