Nathan Pettigrew was born and raised an hour south of New Orleans and lives in the Tampa area with his loving wife. His story "Yemma" was recently awarded 2nd Place in the 22nd Annual Writer's Digest Short Short Story competion and appeared in the winnow. Other stories have appeared in Deep South Magazine, Penumbra Online, "The Year" Anthology from Crack the Spine, Stoneboat, Cowboy Jamboree, and the Nasty: Fetish Fights Back anthology from Anna Yeatts of Flash Fiction Online, which was spotlighted in a 2017 Rolling Stone article. His story “The Queen of the South Side” was named Honorable Mention in the Genre Short Story category for the 88th Annual Writer’s Digest Writing Competition, while his story "Dog Killer" was named among the Top 4 Finalists of the Writer’s Digest 8th Annual Popular Fiction Awards for the Crime category. Other genre stories have appeared in Thuglit, the bestselling Gone anthology from Red Dog Press, Savage Minds & Raging Bulls from Bristol Noir, and Mirrors Reflecting Shadows from Roi Fainéant Press, Anxiety Press and Outcast Press. Incredible fiction from some of the best indie writers on the planet.

Solarcide prides itself on showcasing up-and-coming writers who aren't afraid to push the envelop, and this collection proves why they're quickly becoming my go-to source for hard-hitting fiction. A lot of collections claim to be "edgy," or attempt to use shock value as a smoke and mirrors routine to distract you from the lack of depth between the covers, but the authors of Solarcidal Tendencies understand exactly how to grab your attention, make you smile, then break your heart.

The introduction by Richard Thomas sets the tone perfectly (go ahead and check it out, it's a part of the "Look Inside" option), and from there you're dropped face-first into "Perfectly Natural" by Jessica Leonard, which is a story so haunting and beautifully-written that I immediately had to read it again. No joke.

Throw in work from more of my favorite indie voices, including Brandon Tietz, Gordon Highland, Rebecca Jones-Howe, and Andrea Taylor, and you've got one of the best collections of the year, hands down.
