I consider myself a semi-pro when it comes to soldering. I've seen these things on desks and at solder stations more frequently over the last few years and decided I'd give it a shot.

WOW! At best I thought it might be an alternative to the wet sponge, but it is so much better. The soldering iron tip comes out clean with little of the temperature drop you normally see with the sponge. Also, no water on the desk to worry about is nice.

This one is a good product. The body is metal so you don't feel worried you'll inadvertently melt something going for the brass ball. Even with the metal body, it will move around on you if you're vigorous with the iron, but I had no trouble keeping it where I wanted it on my bench.

If you are still using a sponge with your soldering iron, I highly recommend you give this method a shot.

The big plus for me is that there is no need for a damp sponge. It is also easy to use. Just stab your solder tip in the sponge a couple of times and your ready to go.

It's exactly what you expect. A nice little cleaner for your soldering iron that works a lot better than a sponge. One thing to note is the case is made of a durable metal. It's much nicer than what the picture may show. It's has a sturdy construction, and is heavy enough for any soldering job. The only downside I have is that it isn't amazon prime so I had to pay for the standard shipping; one should note, however, that no solder tip cleaner on amazon.com has amazon prime.

I can't believe I didn't get one sooner. It just cleans off all the additional solder off the tip without the use of a wet sponge. I love this little guy. It also has a good weight to it on the bottom. I thought it would be lighter and it's not. Excellent!

It's too light weight, moves around from even wimpiest of use by standard weller iron. Wouldn't recommend unless you fill it up halfway with solder or lead shot, or screw it down to a bench or heavy base. Also the action cleans the tip only somewhat (about 30% clean, a very broad, relative, but accurate rating) and the action tends to push the solder / rosin crud further up the tip, toward the sheath, instead of wiping it off and away as with a sponge. I made what works the best: simply a single-piece, non-perforated sponge, with two larger "perforations" drilled through. The sponges with smaller perfs don't work as well, and this wire blob delivers much less performance.

Only about half full of wimpy wire sponge. I already had a perfect Hakko unit just like this one only fully filled with slightly stiffer sponge. I bought this to match my black soldering iron stand. Big disappointment. I took the excellent wire sponge out of the Hakko and placed it inside this unit. Just buy the Hakko and live with the gold color. Excellent seller, however, and I hope the fine seller has a word with the manufacturer about the skimpy wire sponge.

I've used this quite a bit now and it cleans the tips well. The only complaint is because of the lightweight of the container, you might want to attach it to your workstation.
