Product Description

Hot Air Gun: 650 watts, 110V temperature control from 100C (212F) to 450C (842F) (+/- 2C [+/- 3.6F] accuracy). When you turn off the hot air gun, or place it onto its holster, it has a safety cool-down feature which keeps the fan on until the temperature drops below 100C. Note that the digital display is ONLY for the hot air gun, not the soldering iron, and that it only displays in degrees Celcius, NOT Fahrenheit. For safety reasons (since it uses full wall voltage), the hot air gun is *not* unpluggable from the base station. Removable Soldering Iron (model 907A, 5-prong): 50 watts, 24VAC temperature control from 200C (392F) to 480C (896F) (+/- 2C [+/- 3.6F] accuracy). Iron heats up quickly and is controlled via the analog knob which has both Celsius and Fahrenheit markings. Like the hot air gun, the soldering iron uses a closed-loop feedback temperature control system to precisely hold the set temperature. A single LED indicator lights up when the soldering iron is heating, and turns off when power is internally disconnected by the automatic temperature controller, thereby showing the automatic temperature control function in action. The soldering iron is easily unpluggable from the base station. Due to the internal temperature control system, temperature control is not affected by air flow. Digital LED display shows precise temperature of the air flow from the hot air gun. Temperature is set very easily via the digital up/down buttons. Unit is great for heating SMD (surface mount) and other components safety and quickly. Very durable, high quality nichrome heating coil and quiet, brushless fan. Hot air gun comes with its own plastic holder. When the gun is placed into the holder a sensor automatically turns the unit off and puts it into its “safety cool-down” mode, where it turns off the heating element but keeps the fan on until hot air gun temperature is below 100C.

I received this item and immediately tried this right away have a few small projects pending on my work table. As soon I plugged it in the hot air gun was turned on. After a few minutes learning the station I began working I'm more of an amateur electronics person but I really enjoyed this I was excited seeing how quickly it heated up and started melting the solder. My older one would take forever to heat up. I had bought a 10 piece tip set and it didn't fit the soldering gun I had but when I opened this station I tried it and it fit perfectly. I soldered and repaired all my projects mostly my kids toys where some solder joints and wires were broken. Everything worked perfectly and I am very pleased. I didn't experience any flimsyness from the soldering iron and I don't expect this station to match a super expensive model. For 65 bucks I'm very pleased and I know I will take care of this station so hopefully it will last me a long time .

I love this set up. I work on electric guitars and this is the cat's meow. I really like the hot air gun with a small tip at about 350 degrees for shrink tubing! No more matches and scorch marks. Hit it with the hot air for two seconds and you're done. Very fast heat up and cool down. I turn off the soldering iron when I'm not using it.....saves the tip and it only takes a short time to heat up.
Great customer service too. I didn't like the way the original tips secured to the hot air gun. Took one call and a new air gun was on it's way...no charge (I didn't want to return the whole unit because I was busy using it and I liked it). Hint: Turn the hot air tips counterclockwise onto the gun. Hint #2: The funny little blue stick with a forked wire is a "chip popper" (see Q & A's). You'll have to use a very small drill bit to enlarge the screw hole before you'll EVER get it to screw together. The screw popper works as a dandy device to hold a wire in place while you solder it in place (like a ground wire on the back of a tone/volume potentiometer).
I love this product and have been looking for projects to use it on. It's that cool!

UPDATE 25 DEC 2016:
-Great company! They were responsive and worked with me to console me. They even tried sending me some free soldering tips as a consolation once I returned the item, but they accidentally sent me *an entire open-box unit instead!* They let me keep it; what a deal! I did receive my alternate 898D+ from Ebay by the way, too, and I took both the 878ad and the 898D+ apart, and this 878 from Yihua here was *much better quality* inside! The PCB was very well manufactured in my Yihua unit, and pretty lousy (even needed some repairs) in my Ebay unit. I hope Yihua begins selling the 898D+ on Amazon too, as it's a much better unit control-wise. I just want the Yihua quality too instead of the lousy Ebay quality I got on my 898D+.

Original review:

False advertising: hot air gun has a temperature range from 100C (212F) to only 450C (842F), NOT up to 480C (896F) as it *incorrectly* advertises repeatedly in the description. This is quite frustrating for me, as one of my reasons for purchasing this one over others was that it advertised that it goes all the up to 480C instead of only 450C, as many others do.

Aside from this, however, the unit appears to be very well made and I was quite pleased with it (and probably would have given it at least 4 stars), at least in my very limited testing. I desoldered a few components with the hot air gun before discovering its max temp limitation and returning it, but I never tried using the soldering iron at all.

A few important notes:
-the temperature indicator is ONLY for the hot air gun, NOT the soldering iron. The soldering iron indicates its temp by having its little LED indicator light blink once the temperature is reached, instead of being constantly lit while it is heating up.

Easy to use! Reliable and fun. The seller kept in contact with me via emails on shipping and helpful videos and FAQS. That helped me tremendously because I really had no clue on how this works but now I consider myself a ranked novice.

Wow, this soldering/rework station is really impressive. The build quality is high, it's simple to use, both air and iron heat up very quickly, and it performs its intended function well. Nothing else really to say - I'd buy again.

The product works ok but I was expecting the digital readout to work for both the hot air and/or the soldering iron. It doesn't, it only works for the hot air. Also, spare soldering tips would have been nice but they cheaped out.

The hot airgun part works as expected! However the soldering iron leaves a lot to be desired. (This is not a digital temperature soldering iron the screen is only for the hot air). It came with one very fine tip which I rarely use. I ordered some extra tips. Not a deal breaker but I think if they want to include only one tip that it should be a medium tip. It was hard to figure out what the temperature indicators in the knob were; almost two overlapping scales.

I am a hobbyist and upgraded to this unit from a $5 soldering iron. This soldering station is amazing compared to what I was using. The iron and heat gun both heat up very quickly and maintain temperature very well. The iron has a comfortable handle compared to the $5 one I was using. The cords are flexible and heat resistant. The gun attachments fit a little loose for my liking, but they work. I may modify the gun to give a tighter fit later. The digital read out only displays the heat gun temperature. The right knob has Celsius and Fahrenheit for the iron. Changing the gun temperature is a breeze because you can press once per degree or hold it down for larger changes (fast scroll). The air speed is easily controlled with the left knob and is very responsive. The size of the entire station feels appropriate as well. I have only used the unit for a few minutes so I can't speak to its' longevity. My only complaint (if even considered a complaint) is the tip that comes with the iron is way to small. The tip I have pictured is not what came with the Yihua 878AD.
