When asked to read an Advance for Sydney Logan-- a story about a modern day Soldier and a complicated love story to boot-- I was nervous to say the least. Loving and losing the man you love to war is too close to my heart to usually allow me to even venture into a story about young soldier love.
But I love Sydney and everything she writes, because she writes what's in the heart. And her characters are always like one's best friends while reading. So taking the advice of her title and her hero- I soldiered on and read this in one sitting.
And cried. Cried and laughed. Cried some more, and grinned like an idiot until my cheeks hurt.
Brandon and Stephanie had plans for their last semester of college- and the future they had planned after graduation did not include a relationship. But a chance meet, that incredible feeling of a first kiss, and sweet chemistry changes that.
But Steph has some major hangups- like dating a soldier.
And Brandon's a soldier.
Both have deeper stories that have shaped them- family histories that drive them to be who they are.
The love is clear. But with Steph's issue about falling for a soldier, it
s a real test of their friendship, and their love.
Fear of being left behind, of losing the love you are desperately afraid to venture through with, of discovering that life isn't perfect.
Because all you really need in life are three little things- Love, honesty, and respect- and as one of my favorite characters in the story says- you can't have one without the others.
All this and more Ms. Logan covers with such ease, it truly is like riding the wave of emotions right beside every character.
So while I cried and ignored everything around me- I am left feeling content because this story was real.

Soldier On is another spectacular reminder just how talented Sydney Logan is when it comes to writing a book. She is able to capture your attention within the first few sentences and remind you why you love to read in the first place. I have had the pleasure of reading her other books, Lessons Learned, Mountain Charm, and The Little Drummer Boy are 3 of her books that I have already read. Soldier On is just another reminder of why I love and enjoy her as an author. I have compared her in the past to another one of my favorite authors, Nicholas Sparks, and she continues time and time again to keep that spot!

About the Book

Stephanie James is a college Senior working towards finishing, so she can move on to the next phase in her life. Half way through her Senior year she meets an ‘unknown’ guy during a New Year’s Eve costume party. She does not know it at that time, but his name is Brandon.

I’ve read several of Sydney Logan’s books, and I have to now say that Soldier On is my favorite. I loved it!

Steph is a college student with her eye on graduation and no time for men. Brandon is the same way – working hard to graduate from college and from ROTC into the U.S. Army. But when they meet, the attraction is undeniable. Problem is, because of her father’s death in Desert Storm, Steph absolutely HATES the military.

I really enjoyed Steph and Brandon’s banter, but there were also times I wanted to wring both of their necks. Steph was stubborn and Brandon deceitful… but as they grew closer, they changed, and it was a wonderful thing to see.

The secondary relationships are fabulous too – Steph’s best friend Tessa and her boyfriend Xavier are so much fun. I want to hang out with them (and have Tessa cook for me, of course.) Brandon’s family brings out a whole different set of emotions. His father is suffering from Alzheimer’s and deteriorating before his eyes. There is a particular scene near the end that made me cry it was so beautiful – and there are many more touching scenes in this book.

A sweet romance about a boy, a girl, and a family working to get through the tough times by leaning on and loving each other - Soldier On is a winner!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I Just finished reading Soldier On and I have to tell you it is an amazing book. The characters are rich and real.
I felt their emotions.Giddy at a first kiss. Nervous at the time when they connected again. Angry, sad happy ecstatic excited and content. I laughed and cried and laughed while I cried. I highly recommend this Book I give it 5 STARS.

Join Steph and Brandon as they start out focused on school and career. A New Years kiss may change it all.Growing up with out her father because he was killed while serving in the Military ,Steph has a hate on for all things soldier, irrational tho it may be. Brandon grew up with out a mother because she left when he was little. His dad was Military through and through. So it was drilled into him to keep focused and Soldier On.
When Steph finds out Brandon is in ROTC and intends to be in the Army for four years things get a tad ugly. With the help of family and friends ,these two get a handle on things and start making some life choices.I invite you to read this story and love it as much as I do.Well done Sydney!
