The Good: The controls are easy to use, and you can quickly set it to one of the pre-set humidity levels, or set your own custom value. I started out with the presets, but I found that it removed TOO MUCH humidity from the garage – the place actually felt bone dry when you went in. I ended up setting it to 75%, which seems to be a good balance. Based on just these attributes I’d give the unit 4 stars at least.
The Bad: This unit makes a LOT more noise than expected, even on the low fan setting. It’s OK for a garage, but I can actually hear it through the 6” insulated wall between the garage & the laundry room when I’m in there. If I'm going to work in the garage I turn it off. There is no way you would want this in your living space unless you were not planning to be there. The unit makes its own noise while running, but then there is also an annoying plastic rattle that it makes while it’s running. If you give the top a smack it stops, but not for long. Our 70 pint version is nothing like this one. The rattle might just be our unit, but the noise that this unit makes is built in and not good.
Summary: I probably would have returned it if I had not already recycled the box. It works great, but only buy this for remote or empty building applications.
Full review: I wanted to try this out to see how it compares with a full-size dehumidifier. I realized that the performance (in terms of pints per day removed from the air) would be much less, but thought the more compact size would make it a good choice for a small room that is too far away from my main dehumidifier.
It is very nicely sized. Unlike a full-size unit, this is easily transported. It even has a carry handle at the top and is not at all difficult to pick up and move using the handle (it weighs about 31 pounds). I've posted a picture of it next to a Frigidaire 70-pint model so you can see the relative size difference.
The control panel is clear and easy to use. There are three fan speeds, and a humidity level setting. It also has a "my home" mode which is just a gimmick - pressing one of the "room" buttons just sets the target humidity to a pre-set level. Nothing of real value. There's also a child lock and a timer function.
The noise level is great - very, very quiet at low fan speed, and muted (compared with a full size machine) even at high speed. This is probably the best feature of the machine.
The airflow is unusual in that it draws air in through the back and out to the side. That means you can't position this with the back flush against the wall or it will constrain the incoming airflow. But, on the plus side, the air intake in the back makes the filter easy to remove for cleaning since it's readily accessible.

This dehumidifier has a capacity of 30 pints and this is the amount of water it can extract from the air in a twenty four hour period and not the amount it can hold, the actual bucket capacity is eight and a half pints. So in theory if you were to having this running at full rate 24 hours a day you would have to empty the bucket three or four times. If that's the case though I would recommend a higher capacity dehumidifier and so you should jump to the 45.
Of course you always have the excellent option of hooking up a garden hose (not supplied) and using its gravity drain feature running it to your sump pump hole or French drain meaning you would have zero maintenance.
The controls are easy to follow and you can manually set the humidity level or choose from one of the presets such as sleeping area, living area, basement etc. everything is very clear and simple and once set you can probably leave it be.
I do want to note that should the power get knocked out, as it did one night with the 45 pint version that I own, the Unit will actually remember all of the settings and will power up and began where it left off without issue. Comforting to know should the electricity go out when you are away from home.
When you first use a dehumidifier you may be surprised at how quickly the bucket fills and this is normal.Read more ›
