Before I begin let me just say Im 24 year old guy who listens to HipHop, Pop, Reggaeton but i still have to give credit where credit is due & i wont deny good music. This album can be played straight through. Songs start off one way, go somewhere else in the middle & take you elsewhere in the end. The melodies are genius & enjoyable but you can still do something like study to them...I always study to this music or read, it takes what im reading to the next level...I owned this album for 2 years and still listen to it....& i wrote this review today because i wanted to see if Gonzales has some more work that i can order.

Beautiful album art, the vinyl itself is white which was a pleasant surprise. I'd only streamed it prior to getting the vinyl and I'm thrilled with the purchase.

Such a surprising album. Its like nothing I've ever heard. I have shared this album with many people and they all have become fans of Chili Gonzales's piano work.
The record that came in this package is solid white. Since there are no lyrics, the lyrics sheet just had illustrations of various shadow art.
This pretty much lives in my record player now unless there is something else specific I want to listen to.

Unboxing this felt like Christmas Day. I already heard it before, but on wax, it is an entirely different sound, emotion and vibrance. Chilly is one special character that can make you think about your day, week and life all at once in one listen; all while putting a child to bed at night. And to add, the record is absolutely white and includes the CD as well!

I had this recommended to me by two friends who never like anything, so I immediately sought it out. I think Gonzales' electronic solo stuff is OK, and his production is better but it doesn't hint at this!.
This is the ultimate "chillout" record (from someone who hates chillout records). Just Chili on his piano (supposely he made it when he was stressed in the midddle of a particularily difficult session with Serge gainsbourg.). beautiful and memorable melodies. It is on my Ipod, all my computers. Not classical, not jazz - something in between and totally perfect.

Very tranquil album, nice when doing tedious tasks or for turning down one's mind.

The liner notes say that it is like music from a silent movie. I think that that's a pretty good description. I'd say it fits in somewhere between jazz and classical. Pretty distinctive sounding... I heard it on the radio and remembered what time it played and then looked it up on the internet. Thanks kcrw for introducing me to cool music.

Wow....fr every song comes a complete experience in your reality and in your imagination. A movie soundtrack to your life. And it's a bit dissonant and off too.

Chilly Gonzales
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on November 22, 2012
CD Piano Solo Chilly Gonzales.
I first heard his solo playing on BBC Radio 3 where he was being interviewed about his forthcoming symphony about to be premiered at the Barbican the following day. He sounded extremely objective about his music - . I learned very little about him except that he is Canadian - of which I approve - and then he performed a piano piece which grabbed me right away. It sounded inventive, non-pop, was very melodic in a whimsical way, and had nice form and precise ending.
When I got to hear some of his grander stuff with a range of other instruments, and then his rap music with verse that scans and has significant meaning, so then I was smitten. I listen to something of his nearly every day. What other recordings has he done ? Is there any biographic material on him ?

One of the great artists working today
Gonzales transcends any genre, though there are references to Satie,Ravel and Debussy, there are also touches if Thelonious Monk and Bill Evans
I recommend this without hesitation to anyone who loves real music and understands its value
