“Scenes, settings, and action are graphic-novel worthy, from sweat-stained jungle treks to bad-guy confrontations, all laced with historical factoids and a soupçon of fantasy for across-the-board appeal. Cussler and Company continue the winning formula, and this jungle episode, featuring exotic locales and an interesting back story, will satisfy the cravings of every fan.” — Kirkus Reviews
Other Praise for Clive Cussler
“The Mayan Secrets is the best of the series so far. The story and characters gel into an adventure that feels like Cussler’s Dirk Pitt adventures. The end result is a blast.” —Associated Press
“Sam and Remi Fargo wield automatic weapons as well as they do metal detectors. This adventure series stands as one of the crown jewels in the Cussler empire.” —Publishers Weekly
“In The Eye of Heaven, Cussler’s blissfully wedded, globe-trotting treasure hunters return for another round of stupendous discoveries and narrow escapes. The two are fabulously wealthy, accomplished, brilliant, attractive, resourceful, courageous, and unfailingly virtuous, with a crackling mutual attraction.”—Kirkus Reviews
“A fun blend of history and mystery…an energetic Cussler actioner with enough character development to give it dramatic weight.”—Booklist

Alerted to the possible existence of a lost underwater city by their associate, Leonid, Sam and Remi set out for Guadalcanal, site of one of the longest and bloodiest battles of the Pacific war. But once there, strange happenings begin, such as a seawater crocodile attack. As time passes, Sam and Remi learn about local legends, including the cursed bay where the forgotten city lies, and the existence of giants living in caves on the island.
But more disturbing information is uncovered relating to the events during the war. It seems that the Japanese may have conducted medical experiments on the natives in the caves. Determined to not only locate the missing city but to solve the mystery of the Japanese atrocities, the Fargos and their associates set out on their greatest adventure yet. But they will find along the way that not everyone can be trusted.
I'm a big fan of Clive Cussler, and I especially enjoy his Fargo series. "The Solomon Curse" is loaded with twists and turns, and the characters are well-developed. Being a World War II history fan, I especially liked the setting of Guadalcanal for this story. Highly recommended.
The Fargo books, as with all of Cussler's books, have a predictable pattern to them, but that's what brings me back time and again. Just like with other serials, it's the likability of the characters that I want to stay with and I would love to count Remy and Sam Fargo as friends in real life if I could.
This book is set in Guadalcanal and it certainly piqued my interest to read more about the history of the island. The primary objective here is treasure hunting and some local lore debunking. The array of characters that are present beyond our protagonists are colorful in many ways and add much to the complexity of the book. I'll keep coming back for more Clive!
I recommend this latest in the Fargo series to all Action/Adventure fans.
