If you, or a loved one has, or suspects, thyroid disease, you must read this book. 'SOLVED: THE RIDDLE OF ILLNESS,' will take you through every body system, explaining the role of the thyroid in maintaining health and balance. If you just wonder if you have thyroid disease, you will be introduced to the 'Barnes Basal Temperature Test,' which you can perform at home, that is often indicative of hypothyroid. You will also be armed with all of the symptoms, to do a self assessment.
I can't recommend this book highly enough. If I had read it sooner (yes, nurses are terrible patients), I would have been more pro-active in addressing my own thyroid issues, instead of attributing symptoms to the aging process. Now some secondary complications may, or may not, be reversible. For example, I have been having significant night blindness. My Dr. did not mention an association with thyroid disease when I mentioned these symptoms, but in reading this book I discovered (to paraphrase) 'that many patients complain of 'night blindness.' It is generally caused by deficient vitamin A metabolized retinine A, which requires the thyroid hormone for its generation.' I've been a nurse for over two decades and did not know that the thyroid could be involved with night vision, and, I can guarantee that most of my colleagues don't either. Who knew! This is only one example of the words of wisdom---the pearls, you will find in this book, that you might not find anywhere else, that are so integral to managing your health.
Please read this book and share it with others. Do not do as I did, and deny symptoms, until they are literally destroying body systems. Have your thyroid checked, and if you have thyroid disease, make sure you take charge, and treat it aggressively. This book will show you how! I personally feel it should be mandatory reading for all health care professionals, as well. I know I will be sharing mine.
