Great reference book for your dog library

Yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in dog breeding, the beauty is when a breeder interprets the AKC breed standard to perfection, which is the blue print for “breed type.” Beauchamp takes the mystery out of defining breed type and breed character in his breed type workbook. His writing was for him a cathartic journey recording the information he learned from great dog people, judges, breeders and handlers, and for the reader, a view of the details that made great dogs memorable examples of breed type.

Also, in telling his own experiences with his love for dogs, Beauchamp unveils a key to judging dogs objectively; not to fault judge or use one’s own personal preferences and dislikes to hamper one’s decisions.

I loved reading the book because it was not only entertaining, but a learning experience and one that I will read again and again. It is visually rich, filled with graph techniques and photos used to discern details of movement, head types, sillhouettes and beautiful examples of breed types.

Rich Beauchamp provides the reader with a detailed look into the world of dog show judging and breed assessment. He details his life in dogs and punctuates it with captivating anecdotes of his travels and relationships with both dogs and dog people. Mr. Beauchamp amply displays his knowledge of dogs, breeding and dog show exhibition. He delivers real understanding of the meaning of 'Breed Type' to his readers and allows the reader to follow him into an appreciation for the dogs he admires and shows the reader how he assesses their finer qualities. He allows the reader to share his enthusiasm for the world of dog shows in terms even a novice exhibitor or "newbie" observer can understand.

A must- have book

I think this book is one of the best that I own (and I own many)! This book does a great job explainig the unexplainable and all that in a very easy to read captivating manner, picked with fun illustrative stories. Full of color pictures of great dogs of a variety of breeds, it is pleasing the eye while training it. You will have to do your own work to make the most of it but the authors great experience, knowledge and writing ability does a great job in underlining the important and pointing you in the right direction to recognizing breed type. A must-read to anyone interested in showing, breeding and judging purebred dogs!
