I have been waiting for this to be released on DVD for some time. I suspect with the careers of the 2 leads (Jennifer Connelly and Patrick Dempsey) taking off they way they have certainly helped.
The story centers on Michael (Dempsey), a college student who visits his girlfriend Gabriella (Connelly) and her family for Christmas in Canada. When he gets there, he discovers that her family is exceedingly strange: her father is a writer who spends most of his time wandering the house nude. Her grandmother mistakes Michael for her dead husband. Her two sisters express interest in him. To top it all off, Gabby tells Michael that she no longer loves him.
Well worth the 10 bucks Amazon is charging for the DVD.
UPDATE 2/19/08: As some other reviews have stated, the widescreen presentation appears to be a hard-matte transfer, lopping off the top and bottom of the picture, thus "castrating" Patrick Dempsey's flashing scene. This is a very bare-bones presentation, but better than nothing at all!

This film is on my list as one of the best I've ever seen. I've shared this film with many friends and noticed something strange. Women thought the film was very good. Men thought it was great. This struck me as odd because people usually think of romance films as "chic flicks." This one seems to touch a deeper chord in men.

I think men can identify with Patrick Dempsey's character. He is caught in the wonderful, frightful, exhilirating, heart-breaking world controlled by fascinating, beautiful, powerful women. His motivations shift as the movie progresses as does his understanding of love.

The film is beautifully crafted with a deep understanding of the humanity of love in all its forms. It's a must see.

Both were in their early careers and both showed why they are in demand today. Whether you like Jennifer Connelly or not, she is as in most all of her recent pictures is not only beautiful but most talented. Her acting is actually a step about her beauty which is saying something!

Patrick Dempsey was great in this picture, the dotting young man who gets to learn all facets of emotion in a strange enviroment, then learns the true meaning of life.... love.

No one has ever heard of this when I mention it and that's such a shame! This movie never feels dated whenever I rewatch it. It is a beautiful, tender, quirky, and poetic love story. All of the characters are so unique and loveable. Always leaves me feeling tingly and breathless. Such sweetness is harder and harder to find in modern cinema. I hope others will see the beauty I see in this film.

It's a "fun" movie (at least for me it was) about the misadventures of a young man while staying with the eccentric family of who he thinks is his girl... I enjoyed it VERY much and snapped it up when it was finally released to DVD...

Watching this film makes one wonder why more films aren't shot in Quebec. What a beautiful place! Patrick Dempsey goes to Quebec to play his teenage fish-out-of-water role with the beautiful Jennifer Connelley and an eccentric cast. There's more to this film than a naked Dempsey running around a big old house. Beneath all the familial eccentricity there's a charming story about friendship and family.

I saw this movie years ago when it first came out. I is a interesting comedy with some serious plots and scenes. Great actors that are big in the movie industry today. I purchased this product to add to my DVD collection of videos that I liked. I recommend this product and the seller.

This movie is a must, Patrick Dempsey is brilliant, he acts with his eyes. The sights and sounds of Canada at Christmas is too beautiful for words. The movie is an emotional roller coaster with a performance of Lila Kedrova as Granny.
