The book itself? Well, if you've been reading the series, you probably know what to expect - more of the same. Lots and lots and lots of religious symbolism and preaching. The only reason I wanted to finish it was because it's the last in the series (I hope!) and I just wanted to see how it ends. The stories themselves are somewhat interesting, but even though I consider myself a strong Christian, I got really tired of being preached at every third page.
The time travel elements are different and interesting. Start out with the first book: First Time - The Legend of Garison Fitch. The religious theme isn't quite so strong and the time travel paradoxes get really interesting. I would give that book a strong 4 stars. The other two Garison books (Saving Time, and Lost Time) are also done very well, at least in tying up all the time travel bits. But as you go deeper into the series, especially the ones featuring Edward (Garison's grandson)and Marianne, well, it gets to be a bit too much.
UPDATE: Amazon just replied to my inquiry that the book indeed ends that way - and I refuse to believe it! If any of you reviewers who think you got the whole book read this, please reply and let me know if Marianne ever finds out if Edward was indeed killed. In my version of the Kindle book, she has just been told that he had fallen. And that's it. Nothing more. I CANNOT believe the book ends this way!
UPDATE TO THE UPDATE - 10/10/11 - I received a reply from Samuel Ben White's Web site:
< The end of "Some of the Time" (Edward and Marianne) is not the end of the story. The next novel, due in 2012 (and tentatively titled "Marianne") will wrap up this tale of Edward and Marianne. >
So my apologies to all. I guess the book was meant to end with a "cliffhanger." It still seems odd to me, and a bit frustrating, but now I'll have to wait for the next novel. I hope it finally finishes the story. And doesn't cost an arm and a leg.
This book was AWESOME as it picks up where All of the Time ended. And, like all of Sam's books, it left me wanting MORE at the end!
I am looking forward to the continuing saga!
