Their story starts for us long before romantic love enters the picture. We meet them when they become friends in college and follow their friendship for the next twelve years. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, twelve years, with them knowing they were in love for several of those years and not speaking a word of it to each other. If they'd bought a clue they could have saved themselves a few years of pining. But nooo, they had to dither around, always a step out of synch, tearing my heart out along the way and ripping it to shreds before it was all said and done. And I loved every minute of it!
I’m not sure the last time I spent the majority of my reading time in such agony with a maniacal desperation to finally get the H/h together! There’s something so beautifully flawed and human about these two characters that effortlessly endears them to the reader, and I’ve never rooted so hard for two characters to find their forever. It was clear to everyone around them that Auggie and George belong together, and I’m not sure how much torture my heart could take.
But thank heavens for romance, because we know that guarantees a happy ending. Auggie and his Georgie Girl definitely get theirs, together of course, with family held close and living their dream jobs as they begin their ever after. Angsty and heart rending but heart warming and satisfying, don’t miss this captivating, emotional, phenomenal story. Your heart will thank you.
I loved how their friendship grew and evolved. I also wanted to smack each up the head and knock a clue into their heads. You feel they are meant to be, but I suspect Claudia has an angst quota to fill because the course of true love never runs smooth...or quickly. But that is fine because you get to fall in love with Auggie and George and their wonderful family and friends.
You may want to have some food handy. This book is going to make you hungry. I loved every page!!
I received a review copy. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Apart from chapter one which takes place in the present, the entire book is a count down beginning twelve years ago and advancing a few chapters per year until it arrives back in the present. Likely due to this format, the pacing felt extremely slow as most of the book is backstory with twice as much time spent in the past when compared with time in the present. It just seemed like it took a very long time for something to finally happen.
I loved both Auggie and George as characters and liked the secondary characters too. Some themes highlighted were the importance of family and the bonds of friendship. Overall, I enjoyed the story with its light humor and heart-warming moments.

When Georgie arrives back home, she brings along a big surprise - a new fiance! This obviously shocks Auggie but he reaizes that he loves her enough to want her to be happy even if it is not with him. When the reality of what being married to someone she met overseas and that they really don't have the same life plans, Auggie thinks this is his chance but when he finally admits how he feels to Georgia, she tells him it's too late. Georgia doesn't want to be hurt again so Auggie must find the best ways to win her back and show her how he truly feels about her.
Granted it only took 12 years for these two to finally figure out that they are truly best friends and also partners for life. But the long ride has been fun doing things together!

Auggie and George gives us the ultimate slow burn. Seriously a 12 year slow burn but when things finally mesh it's just the icing on the cake.
Loved them, loved their story, loved everything!!
