When Maggie's car suddenly dies while searching for her friends cottage, she meets the handsome Navy SEAL Lt. John Sullivan and his dog Rock. He invited her back to his rustic cabin. They soon exchange stories of why they are in the Adirondacks. Maggie is a trauma surgeon healing from a tough case she'd had on her last night in the ER. John is trying to make sense of what had gone wrong in their last mission as two of his SEAL teammates were injured during an op. But when he meets Maggie the sparks literally fly and if her car takes a few days to repair then that's just fine with him. I loved Rock the dog and that fact that he bonded with Maggie. There is a side story about his parents that solidifies his vow to stay single while he is a SEAL but its when his team is sent to Kenya to rescue a team of doctors who have been kidnapped that he realizes he can't live without Maggie in his life.
Make sure you have your box of Kleenex handy because you'll need it for this book but that makes it a treasured book to read over and over again. Be prepared for muscle, mayhem and love because Someone to come back to has that and more
John did seem to blow HOT and cold too much but once you start reading, you can't stop.
Omgosh, you will love Rock! If they had just listened to him in the beginning, it would have saved a lot of time!
I'm really looking forward to Dr. Ruby and Snakes' story.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book, but I loved it. John and Maggie were two souls intertwined from the beginning, but they each fought it for different reasons. John had an obligation as a Navy SEAL to be 100% combat mode - being a SEAL was his life and combat was his mission. This was it for him. He never felt bringing another person into his complicated world would be good for him. Too many distractions, and too many deployments would ruin what could be; therefore, he never allowed it.
Maggie on the other hand felt similarly to John, only because she never had time to make the commitment. She was an extraordinary trauma surgeon, who worked 24/7. Falling in love was never in her radar- that is until she met John. Her feelings for him turned her world upside down.
There is a lot of drama in different facets of this book. Those turns told many stories of both of their lives. Some of these obstacles made the book riveting and held a lot of anxiety, but it definitely made me keep on reading. I loved these characters and plot twists, and I hope there is more to come in this series because I'll definitely read anything about these people. Truly worth the read.
I loved that they were both not about that love, hell they weren't even about being in each other's presence. Then they are forced--for many reasons--into quality time neither of them wants. I thought it was all handled beautifully by Roisin and I will admit there were times I got a tad...emotional which I love and hate.
This book definitely qualifies as an emotional rollercoaster so grab a glass of wine or whatever and get ready to feel.

This was my first read by this author, I liked the premise of the story (who doesn't like a hot navy seal?) but actually I found the story to be a little too slow moving for me. I think the characters were perhaps too introspective as we spent a lot of time hearing their inner thoughts.
They decide on a brief interlude and John blows hot and cold with Maggie, who seemed like a sassy type when they first met but becomes a bit beaten down throughout the story.
The last part of the book the pace definitely picked up and things got more interesting, I like the sound of Dr Ruby and would like to see more of her in the future.
I can't wait for the next installment :-)
PS: for any gentlemen out there - don't even think about reading this, because no matter how fit you are, this will not make you feel good about your body :-D
