Let me start by saying I really like these snacks. I've not tried the salt or cocoa flavors, but the pepper and salt taste very good. Very nutty with just the right amount of black pepper bite. These snacks are derived mostly from wheat and sunflower seeds with some sesame seeds. In addition to the black pepper flavor there is a slight hint of jalapeno and even less of garlic. While these are a great alternative to peanuts, they are not a low fat or low caloric snack. Each piece, or cracker, is about 10 calories and a serving has 10% of your RDA of sodium. Indeed, they taste very salty and suspiciously are difficult to stop eating.

If I like Somersaults so much, why just 3 stars? If you look at the ingredients it seems odd that a high sodium snack has salt as its last ingredient. In fact, modified food starch comes before salt. Where is the rest of the sodium coming from? Look closely at the "seasonings." In parentheses the seasonings used in the snack are listed in order of abundance. The very first "seasoning" is "spices" and the second seasoning is "yeast extract." Yeast extract is an analog for MSG (processed free glutamic acid). In short, the sodium is mostly coming from a form of MSG. Please be careful eating these if you are sensitive to MSG.

So what do we have here? A tasty snack that contains too much sodium and has a flavor enhancer derived from a form of MSG. I still really really like these snacks and I will continue to buy them, but with so much sodium and the use of yeast extract I can't rate these any higher. Note that this company is not by any means alone is labeling something as "all natural" while using a form of MSG.

I loved these as a snack and bought them frequently from Whole Foods until I found out Amazon had a better price deal for it. I bought so many times (different flavors) that I kinda got tired of them in one summer. Taking a break from them for now.

Somersaults not only pack in 6 g of protein & 3 g of fiber (a powerful mix), they are also downright tasty! And the cocoa version - come on. It satisfies my sweet tooth and gives me nutrition. Can't beat that. These have absolutely become our favorite snack, hands down.

Mmmmm.... I received a few of these as samples a while back, and immediately I was hooked. These snacks have sunflower seeds inside which provide energy and some key vitamins. I love how they are sweet, but not overly sugary. Even my 11yo will eat them for snack, and she is super picky now that she is a tween :) My favorite flavor out of all the Somersaults snacks is the Sea Salt and Pepper, but since we just bought these on Subscribe and Save, I thought I would review this one first.

At Cyber Sprocket ([...]), we are always buying and trying new healthy-alternative snacks to offset the pounds of M&Ms, Skittles, Starburst and other assorted sugar bombs we buy every month. We've tried fruit leather (moderately popular) various trail mixes (fairly popular) and now the Somersaults Salty Pepper Crunchy Nuggets. That was a couple of weeks ago and the entire batch is gone. Everyone likes them, myself included. The one bag I took home for my wife to try was gone in 24 hours.

Personally I like things like salt & pepper pistachios better, but they are more work and less filling. Salt & vinegar Cape Cod chips are also delicious, but push me even closer to looking like Homer Simpson. These Somersaults are a great alternative.

We're going to check out some of the other flavors next.

A friend gave me a bag of these to try - the chocolate flavor - and I was very skeptical because I am pretty much a chocolate snob and thought there was no way these would compare. But I instantly liked them and now keep a bag in my car, in my office, and even by my bed. They have a cocoa essence, a nice crunch, and I love the texture and taste that the sunflower seeds add. I decided to see what my housemate and friends thought so I had them try them too. Everyone so far has immediately liked them. They don't take the place of a nice dark piece of chocolate, but I used to snack on cheetos or baked lays, and now I have a snack I enjoy more and is much better for me. I just ordered the pack of 6 of all different flavors and won't be surprised if I like the other flavors too!

Flavor Name: Santa Fe SalsaSize: 6 Ounce (Pack of 12) Verified Purchase
We love Somersaults for snacks and the Santa Fe Salsa flavor is our favorite! It's flavorful with just a tinge of jalapeno bite to it but not much (my younger son doesn't like spicy foods yet he loves this). We've tried all of the Somersaults flavors and hands down, this is our favorite. I really love the Cinnamon flavor one too but we're not always in a 'sweet' snacking mood (usually when I am, I go for fruit). This takes the place of wanting to snack on something like 'chips' but is much healthier.

For those of you with kids with peanut or tree nut allergies, Somersaults uses SEEDS and not nuts in their ingredients and last I checked, they manufacture their snacks on a peanut / tree nut free line so these portable, packaged snacks are a GREAT option for those who face these food allergies. Some of the flavors do contain milk powders so those with dairy allergies should avoid this line of snacks.

The only 2 negatives are the price point - they are a bit on the expensive side but then if you compare the ingredient list with a bag of doritos, you'll understand why. You get what you pay for...Somersaults absolutely have more nutritional benefit than a bag of chips or crackers. My second 'complaint' if you will is that they are not currently using organic ingredients. With GMO foods so prevalent in our food supply (more so than most other progressive nation), some of us make a point to really try to feed our families non -GMO foods if we can't always do organic. However, I make the exception with Somersaults because I have a child with anaphylactic peanut and severe tree nut allergies and Somersaults are a safe snack for him so in our case, safety trumps non organic every time :-).
