"Enlightenment Now: The Case for Reason, Science, Humanism, and Progress"
Is the world really falling apart? Is the ideal of progress obsolete? Cognitive scientist and public intellectual Steven Pinker urges us to step back from the gory headlines and prophecies of doom, and instead, follow the data: In seventy-five jaw-dropping graphs, Pinker shows that life, health, prosperity, safety, peace, knowledge, and happiness are on the rise. I devour every word in this series as soon as I see another offering has been made and I love them all but there was something special here. I haven't felt this way about his characters since we first saw blue shoes running through a neighborhood park. If you are a fan of Mr. Bell, start reading now! I call him the Nicholas Sparks for gay men (but without shying away from the juicy details). He writes what we think, his characters say things we long to say and hear, his humor is flawlessly applied, and there is someone in every novel that readers will identify with and root for, the champion varying from reader to reader. I can't wait to read more about Noah, Felix, and especially Harold. I would start right now if I could. Thank you again, Mr. Bell. Now stop reading reviews and hurry up and finish writing Harold's book!
I can clearly see the importance of reading these books in order, beginning with number one. Although each book can stand on its own story; I found that being familiar with the previous characters brings richness to the next. The depth of the characters builds with each new book. I feel like I know Ben, Allison, Tim, Jace, Jason, Nathanial, William, Kelly, Victor, just to name a few. Oh, but I can't forget the outrageously devious and wonderfully mischievous character, Marcella. I can hardly wait to learn what he's up to next.
Both story and character development are excellent. One scene of extreme emotional conflict really hit home with me.
I wholeheartedly recommend Hail to readers who enjoy this genre!
I would love a book on Harold but I sadly know there’s only one more somethinglike summer books left. Though I’m not discouraged because Jay will continue to write new things and what he’s written off of the something like series has been wonderful. Thank you Jay, keep it up!
Jay always has a way of making a story touch your heart, being very sexy without being too graphic. A very nice balance !
If you have kept up with the series, you will enjoy this a lot. If you have missed some of the series , time to catch up before you read this one !
