About the Author

Cardeno C.—CC to friends—is a hopeless romantic who wants to add a lot of happiness and a few awwws into a reader’s day. Writing is a nice break from real life as a corporate type and volunteer work with gay rights organizations. Cardeno’s stories range from sweet to intense, contemporary to paranormal, long to short, but they always include strong relationships and walks into the happily-ever-after sunset.

Cardeno C is in my opinion one of the best writers of M/M erotic romance fiction. In the past I have described his books as comfort food for the brain and that continues to be the case. This book follows two extremely different characters as they get to live with and love each other. It starts during a bachelor party weekend in Las Vegas, where Asher, a police captain from San Franscisco and a well known Dom from the bdsm scene, meets Daniel, a free spirited but ditsy gay man who looks much younger than his age, has no sense of direction and can hardly walk without tripping over his own feet and bumping into any person or furniture near him. Daniel is the brother of Oliver, Asher's best but straight friend, whose bachelor party has brought Asher and him to Las Vegas. The first part of this book is just downright hilarious. Laugh out loud funny. And the growing sexual heat between Daniel and Asher is hotter than a recently fired pistol. What follows is a gradual evolvment of Asher, from a man who thinks of his sex partners as a convient one night stand that does not even include having them stay over for a night to someone who realizes that he can develop a loving and meaningful relationship with Daniel. It also follows Asher's evolvment from a Dom who only enjoys sex with willing Subs on whom he can inflict pain (which they have sought) to realizing that his relationship to Daniel can be even more satisfying without inflicting pain but rather by making love to someone that he really cares for. There are, of course, several bumps in the road to a HAV. This book is so good, that I really had trouble puting it down so that I could do other things that were required of me. Don't miss this extremely enjoyable read.

I'd actually probably gives this a 4.5, but I rounded up because anything Cardeno writes I know I'll like it. To be honest, I like the Home Series better because they were more descriptive and were longer. But I like how Ash and Daniel fit together so seamlessly even though they are complete opposites in basically every way. I liked how the Top/Dom was the one who had to alter his ways and his view on relationships for once. I don't think I've ever read a storyline like that before. It's usually the vanilla Bottom/Sub who has to conform to the Top/Dom. What I really liked about it was the needing someone and wanting to be needed "kink" if you can call it that. Nothing hardcore about the kink, but it is still intense and intimate and passionate.

Can't wait for the next book in the series. I'm guessing it's going to feature Marc, the chef, Daniel befriends. If not it's going to be completely new characters cause there weren't that many secondary characters and Marc was the only gay one.

**UPDATE (8/26/13): I saw that the next book in the series, "Strong Enough", is going to be about Emilio (22 yrs old, Electrician / Construction worker & Ash's cousin apparently) & Spencer (38 yrs old / College Professor). It has a release date of August 30, 2013.**

If you liked the Home Series or the first book in the Mates Series then you'll probably like this one too. If you haven't read the books in the other two series I recommend you check them out as well. IMO, Cardeno is one of the better writers of the m/m genre.

I love this author and love BDSM stories so this one had me excited but I ended up not really enjoying it. The first point to note, this is most definitely NOT a BDSM story. Asher is apparently a fairly hard core Dom but he goes completely vanilla for Daniel as soon as they meet and fall into insta-love. A couple of other things which kind of annoyed me were Asher's constant use of the endearment sugar - this may be jus a personal thing but it took me out of the story every time. Also, the many revaluations about Daniel's past seemed to get more and more far fetched as the book goes on. Overall this is probably a 3.5 but I'm rounding down because of my very high expectations from this author.

I hate writing reviews but I do it when the book is this good. I just want other people to know so they don't miss out. The relationship between Asher and Daniel was so loving and scorching hot at the same time. I highly recommend this one!

Okay so I’m a huge Cardeno C fan. I loved the Home series because it was so unexpected. Even after the love had been discovered, she does a great job of exploring the growth of the relationship. Great. This story was different and I wasn’t disappointed; but it wasn’t the same trend. I see some other reviewers were upset at the lack of the whole exploration of the whole D/s theme. My only comment. Thank God! Not a big fan of the scene, I’m way too Type A. However, what I enjoyed was seeing someone who was part of the scene discover something that was even more fulfilling because it explored the Dom experiencing true emotional connection. And there was a dominant and submissive in their sex life, it just didn’t translate into the rest of their lives … instead they complemented each other. What I enjoy most about reading about m/m romances is the balance of gender, where a man is allowed to be vulnerable in his relationship without seeming weak. This is where Cardeno C excels in her writings and she does not disappoint on that in this story in the least.
