I loved this book so, so much! Alexei and Ben captured my heart from the very beginning and would not let go. They were incredibly sweet and I just felt completely charmed by them and adored watching their relationship evolve. Alexei's personal arc was quite emotional and I was so proud of the growth he experienced on this journey. I think I spent the last 20% of the book crying - what Ben and Alexei were feeling felt so raw and real, wow, it touched my heart deeply. And their reunion? Perfect, absolutely perfect. This book is definitely a new favorite.

Alexei is hiking the PCT because he’s recently lost his family had he figures he can use the time to begin to reinvent himself. Ben’s been through bad relationships ships and struggled with where he wants to go in like. He figures he can do the PCT and then get back to a more serious life. When the two meet on the trail sparks fly and when they keep meeting they decide they need to hike together for a while. Can they hike without deeper feelings growing? What about the pieces of themselves they were trying to connect with on the hike? I liked that both Alexei’s and Ben’s struggles and difficulties were real and relatable! I connected a lot with Alexei and his feelings of loneliness and the idea of throwing yourself into something to try and keep from feeling it, though we do it in very different ways! I loved the supporting characters both on and off the trail! I like the idea that because of the length of the trail and the isolation you could meet a stranger and really get to know them! I love that even in that isolation they have their ups and downs! I loved this book and can’t recommend it enough! Can’t wait to read it again!

I enjoyed the story and appreciated the nuanced character development of the main characters. For most of the book I was ambivalent about them getting together because I liked them both and the author did a great job and showing their need for growth and it didn’t seem like a relationship was right for either of them. It was not until the last part of the book that I had any emotional investment in them as a couple. It was a lovely book, but definitely a new experience for me in a romance novel.

First off—I know you can’t judge a book by its cover, but the cover makes it seem like SW&W will be a breezy rom-com, but it was a whole lot more than that. This book twisted my heart into little pieces—yes, there is a HEA for Lex and Ben, but it was a long arduous hike (see what I did there?) to get to it. Lex’s back story, his journaling, even the people they meet (Ruby!) along their journey really moved me in a way that most other books never do. Highly, highly recommend.
