Have to say that one of my FAVORITE part of the book was getting to experience Zander's sister Lily & Adam again from Need You Now. That's my favorite Mika Jolie book!!! The comraderie with the fellas from Martha's Vineyard was so nice to see again.
Excellent read. Well worth your time & money
Somewhere to Begin by Mika Jolie is the first book in her Poison and Wine series and I can wait to see who gets the next book!. This book hits the WOW factor a million times over so to say I loved this book is an understatement. This is also the first time I've read Mika Jolie and it will definitely not be the last time. She weaves Somewhere to Begin which deals with a broken former Navy Seal and a woman who is running from her abusive fiance with tender loving care. You'll be immersed into the story from the first page as well.
Colbie Bennington has decided that there's no way she is going to marry her abusive fiance while waiting t0 walk down the aisle of the church. She's had enough and is done with lying to everyone including herself that her future husband is not going to hit her again. So she runs from the church and heads for where she once felt safe, Princeton her former Alma mater. Unfortunately, she almost hits a truck that has suddenly stopped in front of her, which causes her to crash off the road. She's rescued by the driver, Zander, who in turns offers her a place to stay. But little does she know that he too is trying to heal from a mission that left his with half a leg, PTSD and his teammates dead except for himself and Ben. So she moves in with what she has packed in her car and her red converse tennis shoes. Even though her family is very well off, she's determined to make her own way by opening a book store. But once Zander and Colbie decide to see explore their feelings for each other will they be able to heal each other and both find love again? Or will her former fiance take it all away if he finds her?
Zander Serrano loved being a Navy Seal but when his team is betrayed by an informant, he's only able to save himself and Ben. Now they are both recovering amputees and Zander has returned home to Princeton where his family and friends try hard to convince him to live again. But when his blackout leads to Colbie's crash, he realizes that life could begin again if he can convince Colbie to stay. So his brothers slowly convince him to join their small construction business and where else to begin but Colbie's book store? What follows is a tender healing of two broken souls who reach out to each other and with the addition of Colbie's BFF Delia, Zander's brothers, Max, Rafa, and Paige, who describes herself as the fourth Musketeer of the group. There is a side story of a broken vet, William, who sits in front of the storefront that will reunite with his long lost daughter and a health scare for Zander that will have you wanting that tissue box nearby.
I highly recommend Somewhere to Begin and wish I could give it more than 5 stars because its worth that and many more. The best lines in the book are from Ben who says, "Some things are worth living for" and when Zander's mother thanks Colbie for giving her son back to her.
