Not as good as the original

Movie wasn't bad, in fact it was pretty good, the whole family enjoyed it. Only reason I have it 3 stars was because it just wasn't as good as the original, had big shoes to fill and fell short. Don't know why you would follow up a A star movie with an A star actor with a movie using some no name actors.

Sequel in Name, but a better STORY

So, you loved the Jim Carey movie, "The Mask"? Oh look, a Sequel! (hold up)
Yes, this movie is loaded with animated special effects that somewhat hold up over the years.
Yes, this movie has a ton of SILLY moments!
BUT...
This movie is about Fathers and Sons.
It tells the story of two fathers and two sons and THEIR complex relationships and how they have doubts about, well, everything.
For that reason, I really love the movie. All fathers worry they are going to suck at being a Dad on some level. All Children fear disappointing their parents on some level. This is a movie about that, and about how, eventually, if we listen to each other when we are speaking to each other, we can find a way.
I liked all the actors in this movie. Jamie Kennedy is not like my "favorite" 90's guy, but he's good here.
Alan Cummings is GREAT as Loki here. He really sells it well.

If you pretend than it is ok.

So I finally decided to watch The Son Of The Mask movie because it was 2 in the morning and I had nothing better to do. Well let me tell you that if you pretend that there was never a first Mask movie this one would be ok. Sadly, There has been a first movie made and the first one kiss this ones butt. The story starts off with a tour of a museum where we see a dark character in the back of the group. The tour guide starts talking about The Mask and how the god behind creating LOKI was a terrible god who was banished. The dark figure unmasks himself and it is LOKI. Becoming angry at what he has heard he show his power and takes the mask. Unfortunately this is not the original. After that, we are shown that Jamie kennedy does not seem to want to have a baby but his wife does. His dog Otis find the mask floating in a river and he bring it home. Jamies wife pleads with him to have a baby and nothing in the world would please her more. We see that Jamie plays a character with a lot of skill in drawing but has not gotten anywhere and settles for working as a mascot. While going to a Halloween party Jamie put the mask on and WOW's the crowd. Even a high time executive. In the excitment Jamie rushes back home and sleeps with his wife with the mask on. Creating The Son Of The Mask. Loki is still trying to find the Mask and is informed by his father that a baby has been created from the mask and if he finds the baby he will find the mask. When the son is actually born we see how Jamie is actually taking to fatherhood and it's not going well. If this wasn't enough Jamies wife has to leave for a week. Making the mistake of putting the Son in front of the television to watch cartoons the baby gets all these ideas to drive Jamie insane and getting him sent to a insane assylum. Jamies dog who is jealous of the baby put the Mask on and devises ideas and puts them into action on how to get rid of the baby. Creating a funny and slap stick comedy between the baby and dog. Untimately, The story-line if you do not get it is Loki looking for the Mask. Jamie creates a baby from putting the Mask on and now the baby has the mask power. Jamie trying to coupe with becoming a father. Otis the dog trying to get rid of the baby. I will leave the ending to your imagination or you can go see the movie. I feel as though this movie was OK. Not horrible and not amazing the like the first one.

Unwatchable without Alan Cumming

He really makes it with his outfits. The protag was boring and unlikeable. Frankly the baby was a better actor. Best paired with a drinking game.

Okay, come on guys. I realize you are all trashing the movie but really, if you are an adult, what did you expect? The Mask wasn't going to win an Oscar for the story line or acting the first time around. The sequel certainly wasn't as good as the original but.......... for kids the movie does quite well. While I may like Jim Carey's humor, Jim Carey is not something I want my child to see. This movie was advertised to kids and that's what it was. My 7 year old loves it and there is really nothing that as a parent makes me cring. For a kid, it is just good fun. For a parent, well, I can say it was better that Super Babies-Baby Genius's or The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl. Some kids movies make a parent want to rip their eyes out. This was entirely watchable.
