This book was a great read! I cannot remember the last time that I read a book for fun, as the last 2.5 years I only had the time to read what my professors assigned to me. I found myself not wanting to put down Son of the Sleeper Spy until I finished it. It did not take long to read and was quite easy to comprehend. In my opinion, the legal concepts sprinkled in throughout the book are quite subtle. For the law reader, you'll know what they are and will easily identify them. For the non-legal reader, you'll be able to understand this book regardless of having no knowledge of the legal concepts when they come up.
I think for me, my favorite part was how I was able to identify with the main character, Alexei, on a personal level. I too come from a family with Russian heritage, and my family definitely expects greatness in all that I do because of their cultural roots. This puts a lot of pressure on one when studying for the bar exam. Like the main character, I've also been working full-time while trying to study, which wears me down and puts me in a constant state of exhaustion. However, the fact that his hard work and persistence finally paid off and he passed the bar in the end gives me glimmer of hope that I will be able to do the same (but hopefully on my first try!).
Now, I must admit that the center section was loaded with law and then I realized that I could never be a lawyer.
In conclusion, I found I like the book. It made reflect on myself and I certainly feel like I learned a lot while being entertained. I would give if 4.8 out of 5. So, let's round up to be fair.
