Liv is not a typical romance heroine, she is very independent and not quite recovered from a horrible break up. She doesn't fall head over heels right away, and she know why. She does recognize her body's reaction to the sexy Viking God. Her appreciation of his powers and abilities is clear as they hunt down Soozie's killer.
Bishop creates a world that operates on Norse mythology and this book reminds me of one of my favorite series, Amy Sumida's The God Hunter series. That is a high compliment. Bishop also doesn't overwhelm us with front-loading all of the Norse Gods and Goddesses, leaving a lot up to the imagination of the reader.
I really hope this becomes a series because the writing is witty, sexy and thrilling
Man oh man. When this book came up on our review list, at least three of us wanted it. Guess who got it??? I mean, if you're a Marvel lover and especially if you were totally in love with Thor (come on, who wasn't), then why wouldn't this sound awesome? My thoughts exactly. And so the hype was thrown down. Although I enjoyed this, I think the hype might have gotten the best of me a little bit. Dang it.
The grandson of Thor, Rune, has been exiled to Earth because, well, he nearly beat his brother to death for killing his best friend. In order to return to Asgard, he has to earn his right back. But Odin isn't being completely forthcoming in "how" he's supposed to do that. Excepting his punishment, Rune literally landed not only on Earth, but in a cabin with Liv Winters.
Liv Winters is an FBI agent who lost her best friend six years ago in an extremely brutal murder. She takes 2 weeks off work a year, to concentrate on the case that has gone unsolved, working in the cabin they were supposed to meet years ago. It's there that Rune lands on her. After a tense "stand off", the two come to an arrangement to work together in solving the case. Liv has her reservations about agreeing, but lets get real. Rune admits that the murderer is a godkin, who humans can't really catch on their own. Rune is hotter than hot and is offering to stay and help her. And Rune is hotter than hot (oh, I said that already?). Wouldn't you choose the help too?
I'll be honest in stating that you won't need to wait very long for the chemistry to pay off between these two. And even though their relationship and future is discussed, it's not the focal point, finding the godkin is. Rune uses his powers to help hunt the godkin while Liv pretty much uses herself as bait. This is about the time I started to question where this was going. But in the end, it all works out. We find out that Liv really IS a badass and worthy of the attention Rune gives her. It feels like this was set up to "potentially" turn itself into a spin off or additional installments, so we'll see where it goes from here. Overall a good read that allows you to revisit the Asgardian world of gods and power.
*I received this book from the Jeep Diva in exchange for my honest opinion.
Rune is the son of Thor and Grandson to Odin, but he is annoyed with them for not punishing his brother for the behaviour he has got away with since they were young. This time it's him being banished to Earth to prove himself. The people on Earth know about the Gods, their visits and the Godkins that are often a result of liaisons between Gods and humans.
On the trail of a serial killer who is a descendant of the gods is not going to be easy. Having a God to help might be a little distracting.
The start to what I'm sure will be a great series. I hope it is going to be a series ???
I loved it.
