A truly wonderful, heartfelt, musically and lyrically deep and powerful CD from U2. Each song is different and carries its own personal story and meaning. Each instrument adds the perfect flavor and touch to every song which creates a unique sound. Bono's voice is beautiful. At times he sings high and soft, while other times he sings out profoundly with real emotion. The Edge does an outstanding job at complimenting Bono's lead vocals with his background vocals, especially on the song, "Song for Someone." The guitar sound in the song "Cedar Wood" is simply genius, and the additional vocals of Lykke Li are simple and yet a beautiful addition to "The Troubles." The song "Every Breaking Wave" is so heart-felt and beautiful too. There are so many wonderful songs and so many terrific things to say about each one. I highly recommend this CD to anyone looking for deep lyrics, powerful vocals, and songs that reflect authentic originality, My husband and I love this CD. We are very happy with this purchase. The price was great too! $4.49!

Excellent!

Finally got around to buying this CD nearly 2 years after it's original release date. I listened to it last night for the first time. I bought it because I had been wanting it since it came out but couldn't decide between single disc and deluxe version. Both I thought were too expensive at the time. That's probably too much info so I'll get to the point. This is a great U2 cd. Bono's vocals sound great and so does the Edge. The songs are really good and some of them downright great. Last but not least, the lyrics are wonderful! I only paid $3.99 for it.

Great songs

I was surprised how good this CD was. The extra CD has some new songs, acoustics and different versions. I like the songs enough that it makes it worth getting alternate songs. It also include some great liner notes on the meaning of the songs. There is also a hidden track on the extra CD that is very good.

I think U2 is far from make a new hit as the 80's or early 90's. However this is a very good album. At first it was strange because It sounded like an unofficial or B sides disc. Sure this must be because they released it for free, but anyway it has great songs and some of them "U2 recognizable".
My favorite: Iris. And you have to get the deluxe version in order to get Crystal Ballroom. Great one!

It's not Joshua Tree, it is Good

Disc 1 is solid with 7 or so very good tracks and very few "hmm, skip it" tracks, but no radio friendly hits. Disc 2 is good but probably only for truly deep U2 fans. The Disc 1 tracks come off extremely strong on tour with Iris, Song for Someone and Every Breaking Wave leading the pack. Miracle was actually a pretty good sing-along opening song too. If you forget the Apple distribution and stop looking for the next War or Joshua Tree you might realize that U2 is still putting it out there with some interesting, poignant results.

Incredible Bonuses.

The extras disc has incredible extra versions, and a bonus disco track that should have been a single off the album. We may have all gotten this album for free, but, if you're a U2 fan, then this disc is essential.

Pillow of Shame

"Songs of Innocence" is a strong set. "This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now" is a classic track, one of U2's best. It throbs over an addictive beat with the electric guitars throbbing urgently, "We came from an ancient place beyond what we can see; We've come to colonize your night and steal your poetry." It's really strong. "Raised By Wolves" also rocks relentlessly with Bono's vocals expressive and going into a higher register for part of the lyric, "Face down on a pillow of shame; There are some girls with a needle trying to spell my name; My body's not a canvas; My body's a toilet wall." The opening track "The Miracle" has a Celtic chorus with a wall of background vocals that gives the number variety. I like the way it bounces and U2's furious electric guitar. "Volcano" is also a strong track. This is a strong set by the classic Irish band. Enjoy!
