Now that that's out of the way, I'll start with the games. Sonic the Fighters is EXTREMELY exclusive, unless you would want to get one of those big, bulky arcade machines. When I heard how good Sonic CD was, I felt like I was really missing out (I have an XP, it doesn't work for that) and the same with Sonic R. It also has Vectorman and Vectorman 2-I didn't play them yet, but I heard they were really good, so that's another plus in this game. This collection is very exclusive, and I would suggest any Sonic fan to buy it.
I think Sonic CD is a cool game. I didn't see the cool animated intro when I played the game though. Would love to see it again. I love Triple Trouble and Tails Adventure.
I didn't bother to play Sonic the Fighters. I don't think I would like it.
This is a very fun game. I now have all my favorite Sonic games. I had them when I was growing up. Get this game. You'll love it.
Sonic the Fighters
There are also 6 Sonic Game Gear games:
Sonic Triple Trouble
Sonic Drift 2
Tail's Sky Patrol
There are also 2 unlockable games:
Vectorman 1 & 2 are fun and are some of the best Genesis games there is. It is a shame that Vectorman died off so early because he had great potential.
The Game Gear games are more of a curiosity. It is widely known that most Game Gear games are inferior to the Sega console games, but it was still interesting to see and play the obscure Sonic games. They aren't terribly bad either. They have their own unique feel to them and are fun for handheld games, but they don't feel like Sonic games.
Sonic CD is a classic and is one of the most highly rated Sonic game, but it is a little confusing since it involves time travel. If you run in a direction long enough without stopping, you will go to either the future or past. Sometimes it is not intentional and I really don't see any difference in the gameplay, only the background.
Sonic the Fighters is a strange game to say the least. It has bad controls for a fighting game but for what it is, it is a fun kind of bad. I enjoyed fighting my way through the game. There is a technique I found which let me beat everyone easily even on the hardest difficulty. It has it's flaws but it is fun to play as joke.
Sonic R was I game I had as a kid and the main reason I bought this game. The controls are crazy. It is very difficult to maneuver. The turning always makes the character drift and to turn around you have to stop and turn slowly or do a U-turn like a car even though only one character is driving a car. You may think that the programmers messed up big time, but I believe it was intentional. The CPU's also seem to have the same problem controlling themselves as the player. The point of the race is not to see who is the fastest or who found the quickest path, but it is who can control themselves the best and make the least mistakes. Once you get the hang of the controls, playing against the CPU's is too easy. There are many short cuts which the computers don't even know about. If you're gonna race, race multiplayer.
Sonic R was easily my favorite game in the collection. It is so unique compared to other racers. You can collect 5 Sonic coins to unlock other characters if you get 1st with all the coins. There are also 7 chaos emeralds to collect to unlock a certain super-powered hedgehog. There are also rings on the track and items ranging from a water barrier to a speed boost. There are gates which require different amounts of rings to open. They may lead to a short-cut or a chaos emerald. There are other modes to play as well. Time trials in normal mode and reverse mode which makes you race in the track backwards. There is also a balloon mode which has 5 balloons hidden throughout the track. My favorite mode though is tag mode. It is tag with the Sonic characters. I love to choose the slowest character and try to tag the fastest character. It is hard but fun.
