It is messy, but if you learn to hold your mouth right it's not that bad. In any case it's better than wiping the hunks of crud that come flying out on to your vanity mirror when you floss!
The first time I used it I was a bit startled by the force with which it delivers a single blast of water and air when you pull the trigger. Once I got used to it I couldn't beleive the junk it was blowing out of the deepest recesses of my gums!
Also on my wife's recommendation I use it after brushing and put Crest Pro Health with Flouride mouthwash in it instead of water. That way I'm getting the mouthwash down in my gums and between my teeth where the bacteria hide. Plus I can save time be essentially flossing and gargling simultaneously!
It probably isn't a complete replacement for flossing, I still do a manual floss occasionally just to get some physical contact between my teeth. But I notice when I do that my teeth feel smooth and clean.
The only fault I can find is that it would be nice if the reservoir was slightly bigger so you dont have to fill it every time. But that's a minor annoyance compared to the tremendous benefit provided.
My gums have nevet been healthier, and I cant beleive I actually enjoy flossing! Buy it!!
Now on to the Philips folks who tout the full refund guaranty. The guaranty says "use it for 90 days". I knew I didn't like this product after 15 days, but I waited to use it longer to see if it just took some breaking in period. It didn't get any better. When I got to roughly 48 days, I called Philips to ask whether I had to use it for 90 days before asking for a refund or had a 90-day deadline in which to ask for one. The Philips rep said it only had a 45-day refund policy, and I had missed it. I was reading the box in front of me that said 90 days! She later recanted that after asking a number of different people in her shop. Then she asked me to email my receipt to her, which I did inside of 15 minutes. I got an acknowledgement which said that the request was being processed by Philips. I waited another week and a half before calling Philips back. This time, they said I needed to fill out and return a refund request form and then wait for "up to a month" for the refund. I submitted the form via email also within 15 minutes of receipt. I waited another few weeks before trying to find out the refund status via their online chat tool. The person on the other end was less than helpful and after 20 minutes of chatting said that for these requests I had to call in on a phone line during normal business hours. I waited another couple of weeks, hoping that I didn't need to talk to someone because the check would show up, before calling back (no check).Read more ›
