Installed this into a MacPro5,1 running Sierra 10.12.6. If you need to run power to IOS devices, make sure to go to the Sonnet Allegro site and download the Power Drivers for this. Natively, you won't see any power off this.

IF you're using an external with anything other than an SSD or mSata SSD, then this isn't going to light your socks on fire. Expect Read and Write speeds around 70MB/s. However with an 850 Evo mSata, you'll see 335-350 R & W speeds. Good card for the money.

Another good option If you don't need the 4 ports, is the Ableconn PUSB31P2A USB 3.1. dual port for $32.00. We one installed in another MacPro5,1 and have similar R & W speeds.

I bought this about 7 months ago for my 2012 Mac Pro and it worked well until recently when it began doing the same thing another reviewer reported: when my Mac goes to sleep it disconnects all drives connected to it. And it seems to go off and on numerous times during the night while sleeping. I wake up to as many as six notifications for each that 4 drives were improperly disconnected. This is very disappointing as those drives are used for backup and some contain operating systems. Typically this messes up the drive's directory and then it needs to be repaired via DiskWarrior and I have to spend a fair amount of time checking that the backups were completed successfully.

I cannot recommend this Sonnet product, although I have generally been satisfied with many of their other products over the years, I would return it if I could, and I would even now buy the pro version if I thought it would not have the same problem.

I purchased this for the purpose of getting better speeds with my 2012 Mac Tower Pro. The card was delivered on 3 Aug 2018 = fast shipping. The instructions were simple; called to insert the board into a PCIE slot which I did. Started up my Mac Tower and didn't even need to download drivers. Hooked my Sony HDR-CX580 to download some pic and video. A lot faster than the 2.0 USB on the tower. Great product, easy to install, easy to use and so far I give it 5 stars. See pictures for details.

BTW I am running macOS High Sierra ver. 10.13.6, 2 x 3.46 MHz 6 core Intel Zeon, 64GB 1333 MHz DDR3 memory, with ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024 MB graphics card.

Thanks Sonnet for a great plug and play USB card.

I installed this in a classic (2006) Mac Pro running El Capitan (os X 10.11) and it worked perfectly out of the box. No drivers, no muss, no fuss. I've read reviews from others that have had an issue with USB drives disconnecting when the computer sleeps but I had no issue overnight. I have 3 drives connected (2 spinning and 1 NVMe drive) and all three were still connected this morning. It took me 3 tries to find a card that worked in this old computer but this one works like a champ. So now I have USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports on an old Mac Pro 2,1 (flashed). Don't let anyone tell you that a 14 year old computer is worthless. A little upgrade and it still does a good job. If you have any Mac Pro with PCIe slots, and are using at least os X 10.8 this card should work for you.

It works! Excellent throughput. (Tested with Blackmagic Designs disk tester on all my devices.) Mac OS High Sierra.

I had a USB 3.0 4-port that fail on me (Inateck) just like a previous reviewer. The ports stopped working AND creating some conflicts on native USB ports such as external devices (SD, portable drives, etc.) preventing them to mount. Extremely happy and relieve that Sonnet was easy to install. It fit snug in the PCI-E slots and the ports line are aligned better than the former card. I was able to fully plug in Lexar UHS-II SD card reader (~250MB/s). I put it in slot 4 to avoid blocking the GPU fan, and it did not interfere with the full size hard disk mounted to drive sled above it.

I can’t attest for the durability at this point. Installed yesterday.

I wasn't sure if it would be well supported by Windows 10 because the description says Windows 7 is required but as soon as I installed it, Windows 10 automatically found the Fresco USB 3.0 drivers. I did a speed test with a fast thumbdrive and got the same speed as my motherboard USB 3.0! The purple is a nice touch, makes it seem nicer than a standard green board. Also, since Sonnet is an American company, I trust this a lot more than products from a Chinese company, even though this is made in China. At least we know the Chinese government doesn't have a say in what chips go on the board and there's some kind of quality control standard

Some time ago I uploaded a 2.2gb file from an SD card. It took 55 minutes with usb 2.0 in my Mac Pro mid 2009.
Obviously, something had to be done. After some research and an e-mail with Sagar at Sonnet Tech I ordered and installed this usb 3.0 card into my Mac. I then loaded 3.29 GB of files onto that same SD card. I then uploaded those files to my desktop using the Sonnet usb 3.0 card and a usb 3.0 cable. The time to upload was 43 seconds.
Am I delighted? Absolutely!

Plugged into my 2009 Mac pro 5.1 running mojave and recognised without any problems on powering up. Only niggle was that I had to edit the fan profiles, as they were all running at 100% after installing the card. Not too much of a problem and now getting write speeds on flash stick of about 40 MB/sec and read speeds 145 MB/sec.

Testing speeds on USB 3.0 SSD plugged in gives read speed 350.5 MB/sec and write 270 MB/sec.

Very happy with this and only took about 5 minutes to fit.

100% Mac Pro compatible :)

x 4 PCI slot install - is this ok?

I alrady have my x 16 pci slot taken up with a video card so the only place left is my 4 x slot in my early 2008 mac pro. Question: I timed a 11gb file transfer with a wd external drive and it only shaved 1 minute off the time v from the from of the macs usb slot. Is this only because the cable is a USB 2.0 cable or is it because its in the 4 x pci slot and not the 16 x slot? If I bought a usb 3.0 cable would I see a greater difference in transfer speed?

Once installed it works a treat, however not allowing windows to automatically install the drivers is a pain as it seems to confuse the system. I eventually let them install then deleted then from Device manager then installed the recommended drivers. The next problem was one of my two USB 3.0
