What I wish I had known prior to purchasing.

SONOS Move are incredibly powerful high-fidelity speakers with great capability and performance. I only wish I had known these few things before a painful learning curve. Much of this has probably already been said here, but here’s my take.
1. SONOS speakers are meant to be played via streaming over WI-FI. What that means is, using the SONOS app you select all of your streaming services that you subscribe to (Amazon Music, Apple, Spotify, SoundCloud, Mixcloud, etc.) and your voice assistance service (eg. Alexa) if you wish and the speakers are controlled through the app. Yes, the speakers themselves have volume control and the standard pause, skip and back features. Note, no tuning of balance, treble or bass except through the app when connected through WI-FI. Edit: note that SONOS Move has an auto tuning feature available when you leave it in listening mode.
2. You can stream a Bluetooth enable device to the SONOS Move speaker, but you are limited to playing it through one speaker because unlike JBL, the speakers themselves do not connect to one another over Bluetooth. Again, this is a WI-FI over Bluetooth preferential that SONOS makes.
3. Airplay2 from an iPhone will automatically make the SONOS Move speakers as an option to play your Apple Music to. That’s great because then you get the benefit of using the stereo pair when using two SONOS Move speakers, which you don’t over Bluetooth. Confused yet?
4. The SONOS app is actually VERY EASY to use even though you need to connect your streaming services initially in the app. There is EQ and Volume control through the app as well as a number of settings and tutorials even.
At first I was disappointed with some of these findings that I had to uncover on my own. And I almost packed them up for return. But after using them for the last 48-hours and enjoying the portability and amazing sound details, I’m thinking I’m keeping the pair of speakers. I like how they feel, sound and look.

Note: Initially I wanted speakers to play records on my Bluetooth turntable. Unfortunately, due to the limitations of the SONOS Move speakers not connecting to one another via Bluetooth, only one speaker can be connected to my turntable. However, the sound quality from the one speaker is so amazing that it seriously doesn’t even matter - get over it stereo loving self.

This Little Guy Rocks & It's Got Bluetooth

After slogging my collection of albums around for two decades, I finally consulted with a buddy who's quite an electronic music aficionado on the turntable and speakers to purchase in this day and age. He suggested the turntable, Audio-Technica AT-LP60XBT-BK (also at Amazon), and noted that I could forego speakers and receiver in favor of this Sonos Move. The "Move" is equipped with bluetooth as is the suggested turntable. It took awhile to figure out that the small oval button on the back of the Sonos is the one that switches between your wi-fi and bluetooth (it required a call to my music aficionado once again), but the two connected immediately and the sound is fantastic. The Sonos actually does a great job of filling in bass and treble as a single speaker and, because it's able to travel upstairs or out to my yard with me - quite a distance from the turntable itself - it works perfectly for my speaker needs as I listen to my classics once again. I suggested the same combo to my friend who purchased the two for her grown son for Christmas - word is that he's as pleased as I am.

Speaker 5, Alexa 1. Alexa group fail solved.

The bad, buyer alert - all the complaints about not being able to group Sonos speakers with Alexa speakers and Echo are true. Despite Sonos' carefully crafted language to the contrary.

The good - speaker is great for all the reasons that you've seen and there is an easy work around for Alexa groups.

The problem - you'll see a lot of reviews that complain because you cannot put Sonos speakers and Alexa Echo Dot devices/speakers into groups. If you are a fan of Alexa groups as I am and use it to play throughout your house, that's a major fail and that's what most reviewers say. And I agree with them that this is a terrible oversight and needs to be corrected by Sonos or Amazon. I didn't see those reviews until after I bought. happy ending ahead.

The workaround - what you can do is attach a Sonos speaker as you would any Bluetooth speaker to an Echo Dot. Then you can add that pairing to a group just as you would any Alexa device.

My application, patio - I wanted outdoor speakers from the patio that were connected to my Alexa group inside the house so I had seamless music as people moved in and out. That's why I was disappointed when I could not connect the Sonos Move to my group aptly named party time.

Connecting the Sonos Move to the Echo was super easy and solved my issue. I had an extra echo device to use, but even if you have to buy one it's only 30 bucks. The echo device does not also play music though, it only comes out through the slaved speaker.

Great thing for me was portability of the Move speaker and its outdoor capabilities. I could not find any Echo devices that were rated for outdoor. So this solved that problem. The Echo stays inside and the Move is ready to take outside and don't have to worry if I forget to bring it in.

Big sound filled my 3500 sf patio and pool with one speaker. though admittedly I am polite to neighbors.

Before this, I had an excellent Sony GTX speaker that was connected to a Echo device and that worked fine, but it was a nuisance because the Sony had to be plugged in and the Sony speaker was huge and I had to bring it inside because it wasn't an outdoor speaker.

I also had the option of doing wired speakers but I thought that was more expensive to install and elected not to do. Also considered solar powered speakers but they all seem to be weaker speakers so ruled that out. Connecticut reviewer

This Sonos speaker(s) is exceptionally amazing. It can be used a a single speaker or as a stereo speaker if you have 2. If you are streaming to it from a service such as Spotify do upgrade to the premium sound streaming. The sound quality is amazing and the speakers have a way of self adjusting to maximize the sound quality. I am seriously impressed and will order a few more for Xmas gifts.

He tenido con los años la oportunidad de ir poco a poco contruyendo un sistema SONOS a pesar de no ser un fan de la marca por la facilidad de uso dado que no necesitas ahora cables por toda la casa como en la vieja escuela, pero sobre todo por la calidad del sonido de mucha nitidez y claridad lo cual me llamó mucho la atención desde cuando compre mi primer Play 1 siendo en verdad un escéptico (cosas de la generación ya saben), cada uno de los productos comprados fue una experiencia mas y mas satisfactoria, desde abrirlos hasta la sonrisa del sonido cuando terminas con el Trueplay, tiendo mas al sonido claro que al de bajos profundos y para mi en este rubro SONOS destaca muy muy bien. Pero todo iba perfecto en esa tendencia hasta que lamentablemente esta no se repitió al momento de escuchar por primera vez la MOVE en interiores, he leido algunas revisiones y tengo que coincidir que MOVE no tiene el mismo sonido nitido de los otros productos, simplemente no puedes colocarlo al mismo nivel, para mi probablemente hay 2 cosas relacionadas con esto 1. el Trueplay automático ya que tiene un sistema que se ajusta dependiendo de la acustica del lugar donde esté, y la contrucción del producto para hacerlo resistende al ambiente externo, insisto, simplemente no llega a la calidad balanceada de una ONE o Play 1. Tiene bajos mas profundos pero que tienden a disminuir a manera que aumentas el volumen, esta es una característica que tienen todos los productos, pero personalmente pienso MOVE la tiene un poco mas marcada, he llegado a experimentar en varios lados y colocarla a lado de mi primer Play One y una ONE que tengo en mi recamara esperando pudiera tener una calidad en un rango medio entre esta y la Play 5 (el precio diria que si no?), si bien hay una diferencia en los bajos mas profunda no alcanza a justificar la diferencia del precio, fue un poco decepcionante tengo que decir, pense en regresarla de inmediato al incio, simplemente no podía entender que mi primer producto fuera mejor por un precio a menos de la mitad
Termine dando una y le di la segunda oportunidad al utilizarla outdoor, por cierto, pienso el diseño es bonito se nota robusto para exteriores, el tiempo de duración se la batería puede variar dependiendo del uso a mi me ha durado entre 7 a 8 horas reales lo cual honestamente se me hace justo, que marca no tiende a ser optimista en la eficiencia de sus productos?, la verdad no esperaba me durara las 10 horas sobre todo cuando la usas fuera la acustica tiende a demandar mas de la bocina y la batería.
Ya hablando de la portabilidad, definitivamente es lo mejor que tiene, no puedes andar con ella cargando todo el tiempo por el peso, pero es solida y si me da miedo que llama la atención por su buen acabado. Ahora bien si en habitaciones puede no destacar, el hecho de poder tener un sonido de calidad similar al de casa en espacios abiertos tengo que admitir que se siente bien y es aquí donde me di cuenta que es su zona de confort, si pienso, realidad es que es un producto diseñado y enfocado para tenerlo outdoor, puedes disfutar buenas horas de música, cargarlo con USB C y no vas a prestar tanto atención a la diferencia de la nitidez en medio de las risas y ruidos de las convivencias que se forman en estos lugares, al menos no en mi caso esa es la realidad. Empece a entender que probablemente a los bajos están bien para lo que se requiere en espacios abiertos, encontrar un buena posición de la bocina puede hacer una diferencia enorme, consideren esto para tener una buena experiencia.
Overall satisfecho, no creo comprar otra, si pienso que la calidad y nitidez de la play 1 o One es mejor, pero la portabilidad le da un plus muy fuerte lo vas a disfrutar, en cuanto el precio es alto, pero espera una oferta y probablemente empieza a hacer sentido.

Actualización: La bocina ha resultado al final una buena compra. Es una de las que más he usado sobretodo en esta época donde el jardin y la azotea se han convertido lugares muy concurridos por esto de la pandemia. El sonido me ha terminado de agradar en el exterior, se ha convertido en una de mis mejores compañeras. El software ha tenido una actualización y la batería si me ha llegado a durar más de 10 horas, no la he usado tanto tiempo pero seguro si llega a las 12 horas recuerden depende de la intensidad del volumen. Le cambié mi calificación a 4 estrellas. Lo único que no me gusta es que la carga con USB C debes tener un cargador potente con la mayoría de los de celulares no funciona. Recuerden, en una buena oferta no te vas a arrepentir, si llega a ser más que suficiente en esas pequeñas convivencias. Muy buen producto.

Returned it - Couldn't get over the cost vs value

I really wanted to like this speaker but it in the end I couldn't come to terms with keeping it.

Even after I submitted my return request I kept reading reviews thinking that I must be missing something.

At the end of the day everything people say about this is true in terms of size. The portability wasn't my issue.

What it boiled down to for me was sound quality. Yes it sounds good and offers the typical sound quality Sonos has come to be known for, however I didn't think the sound quality was worth the 500$ premium. I have older BOSE portable speakers that sound fairly good by comparison at a fraction of the cost. So from a portable perspective it didn't add up.

I also have heard the apple home pod on several occasions and while the Move can best it in volume, it didn't come close in sound quality IMO. I know the home pod isn't truly portable, but it is small enough to unplug and move around. I actually thought I would sacrifice the cordless portability the Move offered in exchange for the premium sound and wire of the Home Pod. Given that the home pod is small and moveable I started to think that the Sonos one is small and moveable also. Very similar sound to the move, again at a fraction of the price. Ultimately I think the sound quality and price comparison of Home Pod is what ruined me for the Sonos Move.

In the end it was too much money for the sound quality, and not enough sound quality to justify using a less portable speaker like home pod. Very feature rich in terms of voice assist but nothing a 40$ amazon Alexa speaker can't do also.

I really wanted to like this speaker but in the end, for 500,$ the audio just sounded a little too plastic for me.

I may buy a home pod AND a new Bose portable for the same money

OR I may buy a couple Sonos ones's used, or refurbished and out fit my house with a enough speakers that I don't have to move them for nearly the same quality as the Move

I have seen other people suggest that the latter is a path they may go down and given that the SONO's move can only pair with other Sono's move's, I figure that the Sono's 1 may be a more versatile option long term.

Bocina portátil de calidad pero preferible el sonido del Sonos One

Al contar con una bocina Sonos ya tienes en la mano audio de calidad, de eso no hay duda. VENTAJAS que le veo y e usado: La bocina Sonos Move se siente resistente en material desde la caja envuelta hasta la bocina y la carcasa, la conexión a bluetooth es fácil y rápido, puedes sincronizar con otras bocinas Sonos, Alexa integrado, atractivo y moderno cargador dock, portatil con un sonido fuerte en especial en los bajos justo para una juntadita chica-intermedia. DESVENTAJAS - Esta es mi segunda bocina Sonos siendo la primera un sonos one. A mi parecer, me agrada mas el sonido del Sonos One teniendo un sonido mas claro en los agudos y mas disfrutable para mis gustos. El Sonos Move tiene graves (bajos) mas pronunciados que a veces aturde un poco. Le e intentado mover al ecualizador en la app de sonos pero aun asi no e logrado atinarle al sonido. El Move es algo pesado para estarlo cargando constantemente de un lado a otro. El costo es elevado pero justificable por la calidad de material y audio. El adaptador que va en el toma corriente es un cuadro grande. Se nota ligeramente la calidad del sonido al pasar de wifi a bluetooth (lo cual es normal para cualquier bocina y/o audifonos bluetooth). Lo e usado durante una hora sin estar en el cargador y me bajo la batería a 85% (tal vez sea por el nivel de volumen que lo maneje en 3/4).

En si no me arrepiento para nada haberlo adquirido porque compras un Sonos y el sonido es excepcional tal vez igual o mejor que bose pero si creo que puede haber gente que prefiera el sonido de un Sonos One siendo tal vez una mejor opción adquirir 2 Sonos One y sincronizarlos. Te saldrá mas barato y tendrás un sonido de calidad Sonos, pero pierdes la portabilidad el cual es la función principal del Move.

Una bocina “capricho” que vale mucho la pena.

Este es mi primer equipo SONOS, y estoy encantado en muchas cosas, y en otras este producto me quedó mucho a deber, considerando el precio. Traté de resumir lo que me gustó y lo que no en los siguientes “pros” y “cons”:

Pros:
• Unboxing: toda una experiencia, la caja y los empaques son de muy buena calidad.
• Estética de 10: a pesar de ser un “cilindro”, se ve bastante minimalista y queda bien en cualquier lugar de la casa.
• Sonido nítido y potente: es la principal razón por la que lo compré, y no me decepcionó, el equipo suena bastante bien, y puedes adaptar los bajos y graves. El sonido es realmente cristalino.
• El sonido se dirige a varias partes, no es 100% direccional, si la pones contra una pared, notarás que el sonido no solo va hacia adelante, sino también a los lados.
• Portátil: es grande y pesada, pero trae una agarradera atrás y la muevo por la casa o en el jardín, eso me encanta.
• Alexa integrado: me gusta que traiga asistente de Alexa, sin embargo también he visto fallas en esto (las explico más abajo)
• Conectado con WiFi: creo de lo más característico de Sonos es que se conecta mediante WiFi, así la música no depende de que tu teléfono esté cerca y con el bluetooth conectado. (también tiene opción de bluetooth)

Cons:
• El asistente Alexa es muy sensible: basta con que digas “Alex” o a veces palabras parecidas para que se active el asistente, bajando el volumen de música o en ocasiones contestando cosas que uno no preguntó. Esto no pasa con mis dispositivos Echo.
• En ocasiones se desconecta: esto ha sido lo más molesto, a veces, después de no usarla por unas cuantas horas, el equipo desaparece de la app de Sonos, y tengo que pasar por todo el “toubleshooting” para que la red la encuentra y la añada de nuevo, eso me toma unos 2 o 3 minutos hacerlo.
• App es algo limitada: soy usuario Android, no sé si en iOS sea igual, pero la app de Sonos usando Spotify es algo limitada en la búsqueda, prefiero usar Spotify directamente y de ahí reproducir en Sonos.
• Batería: considerando el tamaño y peso de esta bocina, esperaba que le durara más la batería. Además, incluso aún sin usarla se descarga rápidamente.
• Precio: cuesta el doble que la Sonos one, y creo que el sonido es muy similar, por lo tanto la batería y hacerla portátil es le sube el doble de precio.

Ok, as other reviewers have said, its like a Sonos One with a battery for a considerably higher price. And while both speakers sound similar the Move is quite a bit more to "help" justify the price. From the almost invisible charging ring, waterproofing and long life battery, to the in app charging data and wifi/Bluetooth connectivity. Its an excellent portable speaker. I wish it was cheaper too but if you're in the Sonos ecosystem it's a great addition.

I'll be dragging it around everywhere next summer.
