Editorial Reviews

Sons Of The North is the much anticipated debut album by the United Kingdoms very own rock juggernaut BLACK SPIDERS. Quite literally ten tracks of galloping rock and thunderous roll, heads down, no nonsense, ear splintering, gut wrenching organic, melodic goodness. The record caps a riotous 2 years in which they released single (''St. Peter'') and two acclaimed EPs (Cinco Hombres, Diez Cojones and No Goats in the Omen).

AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!! These guys from the Northern Hemisphere can really ROCK and this cd is hard to put down. But what really sold me is the song "KISS Tried To Kill Me" and if you get the chance check out the video also it is a cross between KISS and The Warriors movie. Like I Said Before AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!

The Black Spiders in my opinion are the best new Rock and Roll band in decades. What makes them so are lyrics that are clear, songs with a great story, guitars that are intense plus drums and bass work that is amazing, the mood of the entire album is get up and groove.

As I listen continually from beginning to end I am reminded of Motorhead, Deep Purple, Rainbow, and Groop Dogdrill, the later because the band's leader Pete Spiby was the front man for GD.

The opening track on 'Sons Of The North' "Stay Down" is a re-recorded version of an earlier release of the song and done well, "Just Like A Women" has a sound that is familiar but unique all it's own and is the same from the EP "No Goats In The Omen". "What Good's Rock Without A Roll", "St. Peter" and "Medusa's Eyes" are the final three of the five I would consider singles that should be garnered from this album. "St. Peter" is another song that has been around the Black Spiders cabinet for a while and has been re-recorded to perfection as well.

If you buy just one CD this year, this is the one you should have. The only thing to make this better is putting it on Vinyl.

As a huge fan of the great rock/metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Kiss, Metallica, Alice Cooper etc, I sometimes feel I'm a bit steeped in the past as most of the music on my iPod is from musicians that formed from the 1960's-1980's and are coming up to retirement, retired or dead.

I first read about Black Spiders in the British magazine Classic Rock, but didn't really take too much notice. However this album caught my eye when browsing on Amazon. I read the excellent reviews and then had a listen on YouTube. What I heard was enough to download this album.

Well, suffice to say it blew me away. This album rocks from start to finish. Really well crafted songs, great riffs and varied. I can hear influences here, notably, Blood of Kings -Black Sabbath, Si El Diablo- Led Zeppelin (How Many More Times from Zep 1). There is a homage to Kiss in the faintly ridiculous, but catchy Kiss Tried To Kill Me. We have a touch of Southern rock in St Peter.

Besides the above other great songs are Man's Ruin. Stay Down and What's Good Rock Without A Roll. But frankly there's not really a duff track at all.

All in all a first class debut album and British rock is well and truly alive.
