Awesome book about Nicaragua

Wow! This is such an awesome book! It's all about Nicaragua, and mostly takes place while the author vacationed along the less populated east coast, or Caribbean coast of Nicaragua. It is full of fascinating stories about running into locals along the way.

I love how simple the style is, yet there is so much embedded in this book. The author seems to travel mostly on a shoestring budget, staying in his hammock in people's yards, rather than in fancy hotels. He travels with people without shoes, and never seems to have much money, but still sees way more of Nicaragua than most people do.

I really love how this book isn't preachy at all. Usually travel books are overly maudlin and are pushing some cause. This author is very respectful to the local people, yet not preachy, which is an extremely rare combination.

I really want the author to write more books in this style. This guy really could travel anywhere and write a fascinating yarn about regular people. So far, his only other book is on Nicaraguan festivals. I'm going to get it next, but I really wish he wrote more travel diaries like this one.

Take this adventure!

Extremely entertaining and interesting look into the farthest reaches of a country that most people will never get to visit. The author takes some amazing trips into the deep jungle, giving us a front seat to the unusual habits and incredible living conditions in rural Nicaragua. Imagine the only way to get from one town to the next is to walk down the beach for days because there are no roads. As the country gears up to build a rival to the Pamama canal, these places are on the endangered list, perhaps to perish forever. If you want a read that will take you far, far away and make you laugh, this is it!
