From the manufacturer
Compact and lightweight
The mechanical design takes maximum advantage of state-of-the-art optics with an effective layout of two aspherical lens elements, and the short flange back unique to mirrorless cameras, to realize stunning compactness and a weight of only 6.2 oz (174 g).
High corner-to-corner image quality
High image quality is realized by state-of-the-art optics using three aspherical elements and one ED glass element. The aspherical elements compensate for various aberration. The ED glass element suppresses chromatic aberration and effectively reduces color fringing.
Beautiful natural bokeh
A 7-blade circular aperture is provided, with precise control of the spherical aberration that affects bokeh delivering the beautiful natural bokeh of the G Lens.
Double linear motors for fast and precise AF
Two linear motors deliver fast, precise AF with superb tracking performance that maximizes camera body performance to capture vital moments in street snaps and the like. The fast, precise and quiet AF with superb tracking performance is ideal for shooting movies as well as stills.
Excellent close-up performance
A minimum focus distance of 1.15 ft (35 cm) (AF)/1.02 ft (31 cm) (MF) and magnification of 0.18x (AF)/0.21x (MF) make the lens useful in many situations like table photography or shooting close-ups of flowers or small objects you find around town with a blurred background.
High operability and reliability
The lens provides a focus hold button, focus mode switch, aperture ring, aperture click switch and Linear Response MF. The aluminium exterior finish of the lens body and hood contributes to reliability through increased strength and durability. The design is also dust and moisture resistant.

I didn't get the 24mm or 40mm because I already had a 20mm and 35mm lens from other than Sony. So this gives me a 20mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm and 135mm lens setup. I'm sort of a primes guy. I do have one zoom lens, but I just enjoy primes more, but everyone is different, with different uses for their gear. I'm not a wedding photographer, but as a hobby have done a few weddings and also do some events. When doing weddings, I usually take with me a 20mm, 35mm, 85mm and 135mm. The 50mm will be more my travel lens.

Top reviews from other countries
The good:
-FAST autofocus, that is silent, accurate and responsive. I mean it is so fast you might wonder if it really focused. The double motors, coupled with small elements makes this a great lens for tracking and fast work
-Small - super compact
- Sharp - noticeably sharp wide open and around f5.6 and f8.
- Manual controls on the lens barrel - declickable aperture, AF/MF, manual aperture ring (<-so useful, especially for video)
The bad:
- Virtually no depth to the front element, which means the front element is exposed when not using the lens hood. This necessitates filters, but then the filter is also exposed, because the bizarre lens hood barely fits over the lens cap and prevents the operation of any rotating filters (ie. CPL or ND)
- Bizarre lens hood - you can't operate the lens cap with the hood on, so everytime you make a lens change, if you want to use the hood, you will have to plan to leave caps off, or remove the hood as well as make the lens change. For my purposes, this is disruptive to my flow
- Sharpness and contrast are on par with other budget options, without providing any benefits when using smaller f-stops, and without offering larger f-stops like the 1.8 or 1.4 lenses. In fact, the Rokinon 45mm 1.8 I tested had better results at all f-stops.
- f16, shows a significant amount of diffraction, but could be the combination with the A7Riii
- Price - at this price, I expected optical performance to be higher than lenses half the price.
Conclusion:
I expected more than the lens delivered. This lens is a good video lens, lightweight and with access to manual controls for iris racking. It is geared for focus pulling, but the compromises in practical use with the bizarre lens hood make it less desirable for still work, where less expensive lenses offer comparable or better quality of images without the headaches of the lens hood and vulnerable optics.
