My complaints. Only has one usb slot in the back mainly used to connect ipod dock. Apparently has no internal memory for blu ray data(blu rays work fine so far without it). You would have to connect a usb flash if you want the memory(in the ONE usb slot available). And no built in wifi. You would have to get a separate wifi dongle sold by Sony for like 79.99(and once again attach it to the ONE usb slot available.)
Simple solutions, just use the ethernet cable instead of wireless. And buy a cheap usb splitter so you can add usb flash and ipod dock at the same time.
It may not be a great choice for larger rooms or houses but if you live in a dorm, studio, or bedroom this is a great choice.
Pros: Great Sound quality
Excellent Sony Product Quality.
Netflix, Hulu, Youtube & more
2 HDMI inputs, 1 HDMI output. (Much better than systems with only 1 HDMI output and ARC. Other systems expect your HDTV to support Audio Return Channel or HDMI 1.4. This means that your
Home Theater can output Video to the TV, while the TV can output sound back to the receiver. However, IF YOUR TV DOES NOT SUPPORT ARC, then you're out of luck with other
receivers. Not the case with this system though.
Cons: Subwoofer could be stronger.
Cables could be a little longer. However, for my 15x10 bedroom, I had extra wire.
Overall, there are cheaper alternatives to this home theater BUT IF YOU WANT HDMI INPUTS, this system is the best option. You wont be disappointed with the quality of this system.
The only drawback for me is that this one is 5.1 instead of the 7.1 that my other old stereo supports, but I didn't need 7.1 in the room I originally bought this for. When I'm actually ready to buy another newer unit, I'm likely to look for a similar Sony model with 7.1.
In reading some of the other reviews, I can't say much regarding sound quality as I wasn't expecting 'the best of the best" from a system in this retail price range. I just wanted a simple all-in-one Blu-ray/DVD player with AM/FM radio and surround (and at least one aux input). I have much better (and larger) speakers set up in the room where I mainly watch movies with surround - "you get what you pay for".
Re: one of the comments about networking, I'm somewhat confused as to why the reviewer said it should have come with WiFi or Ethernet, as it DOES come with Ethernet and is how mine is set up, although the other end is an AirPort Express - as I already had that, I didn't feel like spending additional $$ on the "unitasker" WiFi adapter for this.
EDIT: All the above is true if you do not have the cable companies listed in the title. If you do you are in for a rough road. As noted by other reviews this product has audio sync issues with these cable company's cable boxes. Apparently this is due to the way the boxes read the audio. Sony is no help with the issue, they have you preform settings fixes which do not help, then they request you send in the product and tell you it is working. However one person at Sony told me this is a known issue, when I pressed them about the fact that it is a known issue and there was no recall, they responded just by saying there was no recall.
Amazon however has been amazing, I called them regarding the issue and they granted me a full refund and free shipping back to them of the product past the 30 day window for returns all with almost no questions asked.
Sony went down a peg in my book after this experience and Amazon went up a few pegs.
