I bought this for my husband (and for myself to be truthful), so he could edit some material (and I could make better trailers). What a wise choice it was. A fantastic price for such a easy to use product. Grant it, I say this with having little experience in the movie/editing software field, and I have Photoshop/GIMP experience - which, without it would make the home screen of this product look like a beginners nightmare - but having that little experience made using this a breeze.
It also has it's own tutorials, how to's and more on the software itself. With a little effort and some determination, you can make visually appealing home videos or edit your own material. No matter the choice, I'd say this is a definite 'bang for your buck' product!
If you don't need all of the fancy stuff, this should be just fine for you.
If you're familiar with Windows Movie Maker, you can figure this software out in about a few hours. Just play around with it like you did with Movie Maker. The timeline is the same except you have additional tracks for overlays and audio. You can even add multiple audio tracks and mess with the balance. Very handy. The transitions are labeled the same and you even get more with the software. You'll be very happy with the option to color correct and add visual effects that Movie Maker doesn't offer. Vegas Pro 11 doesn't have all the visual effects that this one has which is weird but if you buy this software then decide to upgrade to Vegas Pro, the effects you have on this will transfer to the upgraded version. The only thing you'll really need knowledge of is file formats and specifications of your clips; HD formats. There's lots of file support on this software and not all formats are created equal. However, there is an easy option where you can automatically have the format matched to avoid the specification hassle. It also takes a lot longer to render or create the movie file onto your PC or hard drive.
WINDOWS LIVE MOVIE MAKER USERS:
If you're familiar with Windows Live Movie Maker, this software will take a bit of getting used to. Live offers the mere basics of movie editing and although an editor can still get the job done with it, Live still offered less options that a digital film editor would like. You may already know this. The timeline in this software is very different but you can get the hang of it with practice. The good thing about this timeline is you can see how much time you have left and the audio track offers a wave measurement so you know when the music gets louder or faster without having to really listen to it. You may also be overwhelmed at first with the amount of options for visual effects and color corrections. The file formats will also take some time to get used to but knowing the specifications of your video clip before hand will come in handy. There is also an easy option to have the formats match. You will have more knowledge of HD specifications than the original Movie Maker users due to your Windows upgrade. Although this software is different, it is fairly easy to learn if you're willing.
If you're a PC user who is thinking of converting to a Mac for video editing purposes, I suggest giving this software a chance first then decide if you still want to convert. If this is too hard, Final Cut may not be the better option for you.
When I bought this a few weeks ago, I got it for $16.99 and judging by what I was able to accomplish, I'd say it was worth the money. Now that the current price is higher, I would still say it's worth it. The actual Vegas Pro software will offer much more than this but this makes great practice or tester before you invest in the $300 program. You may actually get what you need/want from this version than the more expensive one. It's a great alternative or a great option if you're on a budget.
Very difficult to use ,you need a engineering degree to use it. Not user friendly
Worst of all you cannot burn a DVD or export finished work
You need to purchase another program This is from Sony Support
"Movie Studio 11.0 does not have the ability to burn a DVD.
You can, however, render the project from Movie Studio 11.0 and then burn it using another application.
Does freeze and crash sometimes, every so often renders the audio completely off, but my laptop isn't the best. The better your computer, the better this will likely run.

However, I think if you spend just a little more you would access to 2-3 times as much to play with.
I will update my rating accordingly.
