Are you confused by the most polarized set of reviews on Amazon? I was. Some said it took wonderful pictures; some said it took terrible pictures. It was as though half the cameras were defective. They weren't and they aren't. Here's the deal: this camera is a little more prone to bluring than some other, mostly larger, cameras. In technical terms, it has only one aperture setting, and it's pretty wide, which means the depth of the image that is in focus is somewhat shallow. Also, the sensor is not the most sensitive, so, even with the large aperture, it needs plenty of light or it will set for longer exposures and get bluring from camera shake. Finally, the built-in image stabilization is limited and will only help if you don't shake it much. This all adds up to a tendency to take blurry pictures, especially indoors.

So with all that, why did I give it four stars? Because the little camera is fully capable of taking sharp pictures. Believe me when I say I know what sharp pictures are: I have an A850 with a Zeiss 24-70 lens. I also have an excellent (and highly recommended) DSC-100 with Zeiss optics, two aperture settings, and the option of full manual control.

The first pictures I tried with the DSC-180W were indoors in available light (no flash). The results were abysmal. The next thing I tried was using the flash. The results were mixed, because the camera's autofocus system was confused by the complex scene, and the depth of focus is shallow. Then, still indoors, I aimed at something fairly flat with the flash, and voila, it produced a picture sharp enough that it took full advantage of all the pixels. That's all the resolution you can ask for. I tried it at long range and short range, with zoom and wide-angle, and continued to get good results.

The Camera is great for the price. It takes wonderful pictures and video's. The other reviews are false that say the picture quality is bad. The picture quality is very good, I love this camera. Three things you look for in a camera: Great pictures, Portability, and Easy to use. This camera has all three!!

I can't believe they released this camera with such a crappy lens.... this is the one model that DOESN"T have a Carl Zeiss lens.... for this model they made a Sony lens... who's even heard of that?.. .of course the next model went back to a Carl Zeiss because they realized what a mistake they made

The photos look fine in your viewer on the camera - but as soon as you put them on your computer you'll see just how amazingly out of focus the photos are... NOTHING is sharp... and it over saturates the colors. I tried every setting and i might get 1 out of every 10 photos in focus... and again, it looks good on the camera, but when i import them.. i end up trashing them all and it's very disappointing. I'm a graphic designer by trade - and while I was only looking at this for personal snap and shoot opportunities... i know i could trust my old camera... but not this one.

also the delay time in between being able to take shots is incredibly long and slow.

I know this camera was on sale, and I previously had a Sony Cybershot (wtih a Carl Zeiss lens) and loved it. this has left a bad taste in my mouth. avoid this specific model at all costs unless you want to throw money down the toilet.

grrrrrrrrrr

I am not an expert in digital cameras and cannot compare this camera to other brands, but for my personal use it is fantastic, I love it. It is easy to use and the picture quality is very good. Of course, as usual, Amazon delivered the camera in excellent condition. Highly recommended.

Don't buy this camera if you want to capture important once in a lifetime moments. This camera is a waste of time and money. I met Dr. Ben Carson and went up to take a photo with him and his wife there was a long line (as you can imagine) and I had a chance to get only one shot and it was AWFUL! All of us looked yellowy-orange, our faces were washed out from the flash and the remainder of the picture was dark even though the room we were in was well lit.

I have to retake a photo at least 3-5 times EVERYTIME to get a decent shot. To be fair, the video camera has pretty good image quality but the mic is located on the UNDERSIDE of the camera so sound from your recordings is usually pretty bad. This camera is a waste of time and money, I want to take it back soo bad but I think I'm past the 90 day return. :(

Honestly, I was a little skeptical at first about this camera because of the bad reviews it got. Upon receiving the camera, it looked great and functioned well. It was pretty easy to use and was very light. A lot of people gave the camera bad reviews for the picture quality, i disagree. The picture quality was amazing. It took excellent pictures, even in the dark. For the price, its definitely one of the best cameras you can buy.

My old camera died after almost 6 years... I loved the ease of use on that one... it was a sony cybershot. 5.0... I wanted a similar camera but with better technology :) I love the fact that you don't have to fool with AA batteries.... the battery recharges quickly and easily.... I like the battery charger on this camera... no cords to fool with or look for and figure what goes with what. I get great pictures on this camera, it has a steady shot.... even takes great night pictures, or pictures thru glass without me having to readjust the flash or other settings.... great time saver... I have 3 small kids and on the go. I can capture the memories with little fuss!
