Sony RX10 II
With the world’s first 1-inch stacked back-side illuminated Exmor RS CMOS sensor (1), a new world of super-real photography emerges. Zoom in with the RX10 II. Use it to create spectacular 20.2MP still images, stunning 4K movies (2), up to 40x super slow motion (3) and much more.
World's first 20.2 MP 1 Exmor RS stacked back illuminated CMOS sensor (1)
Introducing the world’s first* 1-inch (1.0-type) stacked CMOS image sensor with DRAM chip and a blazingly fast shutter speed of up to 1/32000. This new Exmor RS sensor not only enhances efficiency and speed of A/D conversion through its stacked structure with more circuit sections; it also realizes over five times faster readout speed of the previous RX10 II - thanks to a DRAM chip integrated into the sensor structure. This processing speed allows for stunning 20.2-megapixels at up to 16fps continuous shooting, breathtaking 4k movie and super slow-motion HFR (High Frame Rate) recording of up to 960fps (40x) movie clips – not to mention remarkable low-light low-noise capability.
High resolution 4K movie with direct pixel readout and no pixel binning (7)
High quality 4k is achieved by a high-speed front-end LSI, which processes mass volume image data from the 1-inch Exmor RS CMOS sensor - with full pixel readout and no line skipping or pixel binning - resulting in images that exhibit higher resolution and less moiré and jaggies than typical 4K movies. Moreover, the XAVC S format is incorporated to maximize high-bitrate shooting up to 100 Mbps for professional quality video. The RX10 II also includes pro-style functions such as; Picture Profile, S-Log2/S-Gamut, TC/UB, Rec Control, Dual Video Recording, marker display function, etc. that have typically been available only in professional-use camcorders.
Super slow-motion movie (3) HFR (High frame rate) up to 960 fps (40x)
See the unseen with superspeed HFR (High Frame Rate). The RX10 II can capture super slow motion HFR movie (3) at up to 40x slower than real time. You can chose from 960fps, 480fps or 240fps (4) to playback in XAVC S at 1920 x 1080, in either 60p, 30p or 24p. Choose between 'quality priority' (2 sec.) and 'shoot time priority' (4 sec.). There’s also an option to set 'start trigger' or 'end trigger' which will start capturing movie before or after you press the movie rec. button so you can time those split-second moments perfectly.
Super-speed Anti-Distortion Shutter at max. 1/32000 sec.
Thanks to dramatically accelerated sensor readout, shutter speeds of up to 1/32000 sec. minimize distortion caused by rolling shutter phenomenon. This new blazing-fast - Anti-Distortion Shutter system — can capture shots of swiftly moving subjects without altering their shape as conventional CMOS sensors tend to do. Additionally, the super high speed shutter gives you freedom to shoot photos with defocused backgrounds by using large aperture settings under very bright lighting conditions. This is achieved by a combination of 1/32000 super high speed shutter and built-in ND filter that allows photos to be shot in extremely bright light at a maximum of EV19 with a fully open F-number aperture setting.
Bright F1.8- F2.8 ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens (24-70mm)
Wherever you go, whatever you shoot, the large, constant-aperture F2.8 ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* 24-200mm (35mm equivalent ) lens lets you take sensational images with beautiful background defocusing throughout its zoom lens range. Its impressive depiction reflects lens-body integrated design of 7 aspherical lens elements, including an Advanced Aspherical lens to compensate for aberrations, plus ZEISS T* Coating to help reduce flare and ghosting. This versatile lens features Direct Drive SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) with accurate focusing stop positions, and provides seamless shifting to macro shooting supported by wide-angle and telephoto settings.
Fast Intelligent AF thanks to the new Exmor RS CMOS sensor
Thanks to Sony’s proprietary algorithm and the new Exmor RS CMOS sensor - the Fast Intelligent AF of the RX10 II reaches speeds as fast as 0.09 seconds (5) to capture those decisive moments and fleeting opportunities. The adaptable lens also provides the rapid, reliable Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor (SSM) for swift focusing capability. Together with Fast Intelligent AF, the SSM enables smooth, highly precise focus driving, minimizing lens travel distance for shorter focusing time.
Bright XGA OLED Tru-Finer electronic viewfinder
View every scene in rich detail with the bright XGA OLED Tru-Finer electronic viewfinder (EVF) with high resolution equivalent to approx. 2,359k-dots. The viewfinder faithfully displays what will appear in your recording, including the effects of your camera settings, so you can accurately frame your image, focus and monitor the results. The ZEISS T* coating enhances clarity and reduces flare and reflection in the eyepiece optics.
Professional dust/moisture resistant magnesium-alloy body
Combined with dust- and moisture-resistant design, the use of highly rigid magnesium alloy material for the top cover, front cover, and main chassis makes the body solid yet light, ensuring heavy-duty performance in various tough situations.
Simple connectivity to smartphones via Wi-Fi and NFC
Thanks to built-in Wi-Fi, you can easily connect to a compatible iOS or Android smartphone or tablet with the free PlayMemories Mobile App. From there you can control your camera, preview and frame using your mobile device and trigger the camera shutter or movie button. Then instantly transfer a photo or MP4 movie to your device. NFC (Near Field Communication) provides 'one-touch connection' convenience to Android smartphones and tablets with NFC. Simply touch devices to connect. Setting up your mobile device is as simple as downloading a free PlayMemories Mobile app.
Personalize your camera with PlayMemories Camera Apps (6)
Add new features to your RX10 II with PlayMemories Camera Apps (6). Find apps to fit your shooting style - with everything from time lapse to motion shot and more. Use apps that shoot, share and save photos to your smartphone using Wi-Fi, making it easy to post photos directly to your favorite social media site or backup images to the cloud without connecting to a computer.

Expert Review Summary
“ Sony's Cyber-shot RX10 II easily one of the most versatile fixed-lens consumer cameras currently on the market and on the same level as the excellent Sony's RX100 IV compact. Its video offerings are some of the best you'll find in any camera, not just in the bridge camera segment of the market, and image quality is also top notch. The lens offers a terrific focal range and is impressively sharp. The only real shortcoming is that the RX10 II does not excel at is shooting fast moving subjects using continuous autofocus. ”

Just don't expect it to be something it isn't... (It isn't an A7Sii, you can't put a super wide or long lens on it, you may get a bit of noise in audio on the internal mic if you zoom, and a perfect slow video zoom can be difficult ... as a few examples). It is my favorite all around camera for the money. (if your use it for it is for its strengths).
The 24-200mm zoom range is great for quick, run-n-gun shooting, allowing for sharp images and almost infinite creativity without having to take time to replace lenses. The software can be overwhelming at first, but only because it has so much customization and features. You can program almost any button to adjust almost any setting, and there is even the ever-so-handy 2.35/1 cinematic aspect ration guide markers as an option. With the RX10 ii, you have the option of using zebras and focus peaking too, both are extremely handy when shooting in S-Log 2. The viewfinder is excellent, however, I find myself using the LCD monitor more often, which is also good.
The RX10 ii was a much-needed upgrade from my outdated Canon EOS Rebel T3i. For around $1300, it blows anything cheaper than it out of the water, and is comparable to something like the GH4, which will end up running you around $3000 once you buy lenses. If your on a budget, go with the RX10 ii. It won't disappoint you. In fact, it's much more likely to impress you. If you know what you're doing, you can really get great looking video out of this camera. A solid 5-stars from me. Well done, Sony.
