I bought this as a replacement for my Sony DSC-TX10 that is over 4 years old. My old camera worked great and I loved the pictures it took: underwater, low light and just about any situation.
Why I purchased the DSC-TF1/B:
I didn't like the sliding guard over the lense on the TX10, as it tended to get sand in it and grind when you opened/closed it. This camera doesn't have the sliding cover.
The old camera's on/off button was prominently exposed and the camera would turn on while packed in your bag and being carried in your pocket. All the inadvertent turning on would deplete the already limited battery life. This camera's on/off button is a little more recessed and with the added silicone case/sleeve should not activate as often.
The extra batteries and charger I bought for my TX10 work with this one too. Each battery gets about 200 pictures. With 4 batteries I'll get about 800 photos before worrying about charging a battery.
My TX10 was dropped repeatedly onto concrete, asphalt and rocks. I lost it in the car for over a year and it was exposed to extreme heat and cold. It took a beating and started to develop cracks near the battery door and other places. Due to the cracks it was no longer waterproof. This camera seems a little more sturdy and has a small amount of rubber edging to help protect it from drops.
I bought the silicone sleeve/case to help protect it and make it easier to hold while in the water. The TX10 camera was a bit slippery and hard to handle when wet.
The TX10 camera was so petite that you would take pictures with your finger over the lense. This one has a definite bump so you know where to put your fingers.
Also the TX10 camera would have light rays in the pictures in bright sunlight. I'll have to check that out. The lense on the TF1-B has a circular bump out that might reduce this effect.
Since this is an older model the price was also more reasonable than a 2016 camera. I'm very pleased and hope this camera can last four or more years too.
I'll post an update after my trip to Bermuda in September 2016.
She loves the waterproof nature - doesn't need to worry about rain - or setting it down on a wet bench or dropping it onto wet grass. Turn the camera on and its ready to go - no need to wait for lens to deploy. She likes it better than her old digital camera.
I'd recommend this for anyone who likes taking photos but doesn't want to worry about keeping the camera dry.
